SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JUNE 2021 3 By Linda Weiss, Board Member LIVING LIFE ISN'T ALWAYS EASY I was appointed to the Board of Directors in March of this year and I would like to begin by thanking all the kind residents who have stopped me on my walks around our beautiful neighborhood to wish me well and encourage me in my endeavors. I must admit, I had to think long and hard on this decision as I was not sure I was up for the task. They, and my husband, have given me a much-needed vote of confidence. In the short time I have been on the board, I have learned some things that I would like to share with the community. Yes, I understood that making sure the needed repairs or replacement of things around and in our Lodge and common grounds were taken care of and that the residents were kept informed regarding these matters. It's important that our financial status be kept solid, that budgets are set and kept under control. I could go on but I'm sure you know the list as it is covered every month in our Board of Directors meetings with any of the residents that care to join the meeting. The thing I had not considered and thus found to be the hardest part, is the decisions that we, as a Board of Directors, must make during this time of COVID and social distancing. There are so many rules and regulation that we must follow as a 55+ community. Those rules and regulations are written down, published, and don't change. We all know them and have learned to live with them. The COVID rules are changing by the month, week, or day depending on where you live. We have all been on lockdown now it seems like forever. Our tempers are on a short flame, ready to erupt at any given moment. Everyone has their own opinion on the way things should be opened, closed, participation, etc. We all want life to resume to what we call "normal" regarding the opening up and the resuming of activities. However, the decisions the Board of Directors make must be based on what is legal on a state, county, and current COVID guidelines along with the well-being of staff and each and every person in this community. Following the wishes of some is not always the best for others. There is a quote that comes to mind that is attributed to three different people, Abe Lincoln, P.T. Barnum and John Lydgate. It is "You can satisfy some of the people all of the time, and all the people some of the time, but you cannot satisfy all of the people all of the time." I have never found this to be truer than here in this community today. I am hopeful that by working together we can bring happiness, understanding, and unity back to our community. Update from the Board
