It is also a community of generous and dedicated individuals and service groups who create a culture of caring. The Childhelp Merv Griffin Village is a psychiatric residential facility for abused, neglected and at-risk children. Our mission statement declares that "Childhelp exists to meet the physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs" of our residents. We focus our efforts on advocacy, prevention, treatment, and community outreach — efforts that we could not make without help. The Merv Griffin Village is located on 123 acres in the rolling hills of Beaumont and has been dedicated to the 24 hour a day treatment of children since 1978. Committed to creating a community environment, the Village has beds for 84 children ranging in age from six to 15 years of age. The services provided to the children include a non-public school, art therapy, equine assisted therapy, individual and group therapy, music therapy, a spiritual program (including a choir), library, computer lab, recreation department and wilderness program. The Village responds to the overwhelming needs of these children with several critical community partners in order to provide the best care possible, including the Beaumont Unified School District, the Department of Social Services, Loma Linda University Hospital, the Riverside Sheriffs Association, Beaumont Police Department, Rotary Club, and local volunteers, just to name a few. How can you help? Volunteer your time, make donations of money, new clothing and shoes, bedding, toys, school supplies, musical instruments and gently used luggage; become a Foster Parent (our Foster Family Agency is based in Redlands), join or start a local Childhelp Chapter or Auxiliary. Through the generosity of our community supporters, we have been able to do so much more than we could have on our own. Our maintenance department still drives a truck donated by Bogh Construction a few years ago; our Foster Family Agency still uses a copy machine donated by the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce. A couple of times per year our Special Events are manned by the Beaumont High School Interact Club in conjunction with the Rotary Club. It takes a village to raise a child and it takes a community to support that village. The children we serve have a chance to redefine their life and discover who they are, and the kindness of our community helps them to see the good in the world once again.
