I believe that 2012 was a very successful year for the association. We reached many of the objectives that were discussed in our initial planning meeting. When all of the nal numbers are in it looks like we will end the year with a healthy budget surplus. Of course not everything was all that good in 2012. Probably the worst thing that happened was the resignation of Tami Morgan. She was more than a twenty plus year employee at Sun Lakes. She was the ever-smiling face that kept this community moving forward. Although we will miss her wonderful attitude and abundant historical knowledge of Sun Lakes, we can only wish her all the success in the world in her new endeavor. She may be gone, but there will always be a place in our hearts for Tami. However, this is a new year, a time to make resolutions and plans for the future. That By George Moyer, SLCC HOA President is what the board is doing now. In midDecember, we held an all day strategic planning meeting to determine our goals and direction for the short term as well as some long range planning. Since this article had to be written before the planning was complete I will have to share some of these goals and directions in future messages. I can tell you of a few things started in 2012 that will be continued into 2013. The renovation of the Main Clubhouse entrance and veranda is moving forward. The board has discussed the project in open session, determined a course of action, and is proceeding with the project. A contractor has been chosen, the Master Architectural Committee is being apprised of the work to be done, and we are in nal contract negotiations with the contractor. It is our hope to have the project completed by May. The pond liners on Holes #1 and 2 on the Championship Golf Course are in need of replacement. This is necessary to assure us that we do not lose water. The liners are 25 years old, but have a useful life of 20 years. The one on Hole #1 has already been drained. Players will note the temporary tee positions being used on these holes. These are to protect the workers when they are on site, and for your protection as well. Preliminary concepts and costs have been discussed relating the renovation of Sandwedge. Although nothing has been determined, we are anticipating doing something to enhance its appearance and make it more versatile in its usage. Our resolutions for 2013 are to maintain the wonderful quality of life, maintain the community facilities in the best possible condition and improve them when possible, and provide the nancial oversight that will keep our assessments low and insure our future nancial stability. Happy New Year! REMINDER! UPDATE YOUR MEDICAL INFORMATION The magnetized File of Life on your refrigerator door could be a lifesaver in an emergency situation. The medical data led therein should be reviewed and updated at least every six months as medical conditions change and medications may be added or deleted. This information is vital to rescue teams for obvious reasons. Take a few minutes right now, review the data, and make changes if necessary. If you do not have a File of Life, contact your EPAP Zone Captain. community news | sun lakes lifestyles | january 2013 | 3
