Hiking Club
Its just a stones throw from Four Seasons but a great place for a short
hike or to bring grandchildren to burn off some energy. It is the Wildlands
Conservancys Oak Glen Preserve. It is located at the Los Rio Rancho on Oak
Glen Road and the Hearty Hikers spent the morning there on Nov. 14. A circular
path of 2.5 miles leads hikers to Red Wind Pond populated with mud hens
that welcome handouts from the small pier. This time of year the abundant
oak and sycamore trees have dropped about half their leaves and the ground
reects a light patina of orange and tan hues. A small stream meanders down
the hillside that the path follows. Apple trees, some with unharvested fruit
remind hikers of the major attraction to this canyon. Along the trail are several
picnic areas where visitors can bring their lunches or take apple scrumptious
delicacies from the restaurant. Additional information on the conservancy can
be found at www.wildlandsconservancy.org.
Our next Wednesday hike will be at Diamond Valley Lake and Museum
on Jan 9. We will meet at the Lodge at 8 am. Check with the Lodge or call
Lynette Simonson (951) 306-8252 for any changes. The Friday hikers plan to
hike Wednesday, Jan. 2, to Lake Perris and Terri Peak; Wednesday, Jan. 16, to
Wilderness State Park; and Wednesday, Jan. 30, to Diamond Valley Lake, North
Trail. Info., Lynette Simonson, (951) 306-8252, lynette.simonson@gmail.com.
