| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2018 | 19 If you have questions about golf in Sun Lakes, please call the Main Pro Shop at 845-2135 or the Executive Pro Shop at 769-8444. SLCC Golf & Pro Shop News By Al Vallecorsa, PGA Director of Golf Looking back on the month of July; Charity Week comes to mind with the feeling of accomplishment. The week was full of activities on the golf course and adjacent areas. The Putting Contest, Helicopter Ball-Drop in the early part of the week with the Monster Scramble, Fireworks and the Golf Cart Rodeo being done on Thursday and Friday, followed by the "Shoot- Out and Pro-AM on Sunday. As I looked at the conditions of both courses I was pleased with what I saw despite some very hot days. Currently we are working on the improvement of areas where the championship golf course ties into the community streets as well as 18 executive along the road. These areas are being considered as areas where we can take malnourished turf and convert them into drought plantings. (You may see some paint and colored "feathers" sticking up on the ground along the streets). We are working on the presentation with intension to have proposals for the Boards review soon. These areas consist of 221,214 square feet or 5.07 acres of turf which would lower water. This is part of a "Master Plan" done by Pinnacle Landscaping Design which ultimately is designed to cover 58 acres of grass of the 180 acres we have on the championship course. Congratulations to a great Charity Week and to Ron Naus and Joanne Dixon for winning this year's shootout, they played fantastic and had back to back wins! I would also like to thank the golf staff for doing such an outstanding job throughout the week, Derek/Anne Wood, Ralph Yates, Marilyn Knowles, Joanne Nevins, John and Judy Jones, Masha Midgett, Don Laundreaux for all their efforts as well to Beverly Simmons and all the volunteers. I must not forget Mark and Sean and their team for having the golf courses in super shape and for accommodating all the events that took place.
