| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2018 | 31 Calling all men! Does the "Heart of your Heart" inspire you to sing? Do you long to call your sweetheart in song? If so, then you should check out the Sun Lakes Men's Barbershop Chorus. No prior singing experience necessary, just a willingness to listen, learn, and join in. We are a group of amateurs like yourself who enjoy singing and having fun. We meet every Wednesday morning at 9 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. For details, contact Harry Kaylor at 845-8054. Come join us! Barbershop Chorus Cruzin' Cronies meets the first Saturday of each month. We display our cars at 8 am in the Main Clubhouse parking lot, and then meet briefly in the Multipurpose Room at 8:30 am. Our members also enjoy showing off their cars, classic or specialty, in local car shows around the Pass area. During our monthly meeting, we plan group events, trips to various venues, and hear reports on car shows many of us have attended or plan to attend. After the meeting, we go out for breakfast to enjoy each other's company. Come join us at our next meeting on Sat., Aug. 4. There are no dues, just friendship, outings, and laughter. You don't even need a classic car to be a part of this happy group! For more information, contact Sandra Glickman at (951) 267- 1113 or glickman18@gmail.com. We'd love to have you join us! Our featured car is a 1942 Packard owned by Sun Lakers Neil and Joan Torrence. Their multiple award winning, 17 feet long formal sedan is one of six vehicles still around, out of twelve that were produced. Although production of this model stopped on Feb. 8, 1942, this car was held back and finally sold on Feb. 24 in Springfield, Missouri. Although it doesn't have a custom body, it has that appearance due to the leatherette roof and unusually small back window. The sporty dark metallic maroon appears to be a formal black at night. Priced slightly above comparable Cadillacs in the forties, Packards now sell at a large premium due to their reliability, torque, power, and speed. No other American automobile had a 6 liter engine that produces 165 horsepower coupled with an overdrive with 6 forward speeds. Amenities include maple wood in the window frames, power windows, jump seat, separate liquor compartment, and twin vanity cases in the back seat for the ladies' makeup. The original cost of the car was $3,400 and it weighs 4,445 pounds. Cruzin' Cronies
