Due to some of the excursion refund policies and to keep cancellations down to a minimum, we ask those who wish to sign up for an excursion to please check your calendar for prior engagements prior to signing up for excursions. REFUND POLICY: 1. Cancellations made 30 days prior to the departure date of an excursion or special event will qualify for a full refund, unless otherwise specified. 2. Cancellations made after the 30 day refund deadline are not refundable. However, if an excursion or event has sold out and there is a wait list, the Recreation Department may issue a refund if the ticket can be resold from the wait list. For theater excursions, please let staff know at the time of sign up if you would like to sit next to a specific person. For casino trips, residents must provide addresses for their guests. ON A TRIAL BASIS, YOUR NUMBER FOR LOADING ON THE BUS WILL BE DETERMINED BY WHEN YOU BOUGHT YOUR TICKET. FIRST ONE TO BUY A TICKET WILL BE NUMBER 1 TO LOAD THE BUS. EXCURSIONS EXCURSION SIGN UPS: WED., AUG. 1 AT 8 AM If you are looking for enjoyment, friendships, new places to see, or just to get out for the day, try coming along for one of the many day trips that the Recreation Department has to offer. We travel to Museums, Casinos, Live Theater, Symphonies, Gardens, Concerts and we also offer a few multiple day trips throughout the year. Some trips will offer lunches or dinners that are included in the price. Flyers can be found in the Main Clubhouse Lobby or call the Recreation Department for more information on the fabulous day trips and special events Sat., Oct. 20, 7:45 am - 4:45 pm, $35 pp Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is in the center of Old Town. Here you can experience life from the early Mexican-American period of 1821-1872 through rich living history programs. You may watch history come to life at the blacksmith and woodworker shops and read a newspaper from the 19th century. San Diego was California's first settlement with only a mission and a fort! Wander through lush gardens or browse at one of the many specialty shops for treasures from around the world. Indulge in authentic Mexican food at one of the many restaurants or dance to the strolling mariachis that are up and down the street. You may also visit one of the many museums. Year round, Old Town is the place for food, folklore, and fun. We are off to visit Old Town, and celebrate San Diego's heritage, and bask in the early California ambiance. Five original adobes are part of the complex, which includes shops, restaurants and museums. Other historic buildings include a schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop, San Diego's first newspaper office, a cigar and pipe shop, houses and gardens, and a stable with a carriage collection. There are also stores with local artisans demonstrating their craft. Spend the day on your own exploring and taking in all the beauty, colors and peace of Old Town San Diego. Lunch on own/on site with the many available restaurants to choose from. Tips for your trip: • Go to the Visitor Center for information and to obtain a map. • There is no admission fee to the buildings or museums. • You may take the trolley bus, hop on/off tour which starts and finishes in Old Town. • Let a friendly and experience tour guide show you around Old Town San Diego. To get the most fascinating stories about the area, taking a tour can fill you in on all the best things to know. Old Town San Diego Wed., Oct. 10, 7:30 am – 5 pm, $35pp Upon arrival you will tour (docent) the Santa Margarita Ranch House, Chapel & Bunkhouse Museum. After the tour of the Ranch House you will head over to the "Mess Hall" for lunch (on own). After lunch you will take a docent tour of the Mechanized Museum. Here you will see the equipment used by the military during the deployments from WWII all the way to the present. Please have Driver's License Number and date of birth at the time of sign ups.
