| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2018 | 3 By Sandra Moyer FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK So many pans in the fire right now. Where do I begin? First, I would like to answer questions asked by residents. Q. Why do outside companies or individuals advertise in the Sun Lakes Life? A. This publication in under the Record Gazette. We do not pay for it; therefore we cannot dictate what advertisers are in the publication. Q. When we address the one-time fixes of yards of homes that are owned by banks, do we get reimbursed? A. No, we do not. We are at the mercy of the banks. As you know, the banks procrastinate on starting foreclosure procedures because they must then pay monthly HOAs and bring property back into our standards. The HOA communities have been fighting this at the legislative level but to date unsuccessful. The following are items discussed at the July open board meeting. A presentation of the drought-tolerant plantings that will be going in around the community. You have seen the different colored paints on the ground as well as feathers sticking out of the ground. Mark Burchfield (golf course superintendent), Al Vallecorsa (director of golf ), and Chris Mitchell (general manager), went around both golf courses and common area to mark some of the eyesores where the grass has died. The Board authorized a one time expense to install drought-tolerant plants and trees. A Powerpoint presentation was given. If you did not attend the meeting, please watch for it on channel 97. The Board meetings are shown at 12 pm Monday through Friday. The speed and stop sign violations is continuing to evolve. We are not dropping the project, but we are listening to your concerns and having the Delegates and Safety and Security committee weigh in on final policy. Here are the statistics that we have gathered from the speed strips that were used for seven days: Total volume of vehicles was 47,380. The strips were placed on Birdie, Country Club and Sunningdale. Total vehicles at 25 mph or below were 38,426; 26mph- 30mph were 7,442; 31mph-35mph were 1,362; 36mph-40mph were 140; 41mph-45mph were 9; 46mph + were 1. I want to thank the EPAP organization for their quick response to another power outage last month due to a severe thunderstorm and microburst. They immediately set up in the Bus Room for any resident who needed their oxygen tank recharged. I know of at least one resident who did utilize the service. In addition, the delegates and zone captains checked on the residents in their designated districts. Please remember that land lines go down during a power outage and only cell phones will be in service. One area that they are working on is the Main Gate. You could not reach them, so they are looking into getting a cell phone for the gate. Food for thought: Do you know that awesome feeling when you get into bed, fall right asleep, stay asleep all night and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day? Yeah, me neither!
