| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2018 | 5 During the past few months the questions have centered on the lack of participation or volunteering of our residents. The answer is easy — CHANGING TIMES! Maybe it is time for a history lesson. 1987 to 2004 were the building years. We were built out or all homes were sold by the end of 2004. The original builder, Presley Construction, sold to Pulte Homes and they finished the construction with new design homes the last four or five years. After a battle with Pulte over the trust fund of the Golf Courses and the RV lot, they turned over ownership to Sun Lakes in 2005. We now owned everything within our walls. With the expansion of our Main Clubhouse and the North Clubhouse and the building of the South Clubhouse, our clubs and groups flourished more than ever. One has to remember most of the homeowners were retired or soon to be. They wanted something to do all day. The Men's Golf Club had over 400 members, Garden Club over 300, Friendship Club over 500 members and so on. If someone or a small group wanted to sing or dance or play cards or sew, they were told "form a club" - and they did. Hence, 80 some clubs were formed in a short time. However, during the last seven or eight years — CHANGING TIMES. Most of the new homeowners were still working. The demographics of Sun Lakes Country Club has changed radically in the past few years. We have the original homeowners passing on or getting tired of volunteering for all of the work and the new homeowners working or aren't interested. There is no one remaining to run the clubs. That is the same reason we do not get volunteers to be candidates for the Board of Directors, Delegates or Alternate Delegates, or fill the positions on the Advisory Committees. We are on a path of reduced participation in all categories. We need a new outlook for our future. Our emphasis should change to having more activities in the evening and on weekends. We must campaign for more usage of our amenities. Some of our amenities will disappear from the lack of usage. It doesn't seem fair to everyone if we continue to raise prices for an amenity because we have a high percentage of homeowners or renters who do not use our facilities. To maintain the costs and prices we have there is a growing opinion that we need a monthly food and beverage fee. A resident spends that much or pays it each month. Further, they want to stop raising the golf fees. On these two situations, the entire community pays for the upkeep of the restaurants and the golf courses as they do everything else. If anyone has different methods of helping our situation — let us hear from you. DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly It is summer and many residents have family and friends visiting. During their visit, if a car is going to be parked in the driveway or in the street overnight, a pass is needed. We thought it would be a good time to remind everyone of the rules for the resident and guest passes. Residents are able to get six overnight passes within a 60 day period. Guests of residents are able to get 60 overnight passes, whether consecutive or non-consecutive, within a calendar year. Passes can be printed from the guard gates or the administration office. In terms of these specific passes, the guard gate can print the following: • Day Pass – this is a one-day pass that expires at 12 am (midnight). No overnights allowed. • Two Day Pass – This pass is good for two days and one overnight. It will expire at 12 am (midnight) on the second day. • Three Day Pass – This pass is good for three days and two overnights. It will expire at 12 am (midnight) on the third day. Passes longer than three days may only be obtained from our Admin Office. Our rules stipulate that the overnight parking is from 12 am to 6 am. If the pass is not placed on the windshield of the vehicle, or the pass has expired, Securitas will place a parking citation on the vehicle. Residents are able to discuss the passes and/or citations with our Planning & Compliance Department in the Admin Building Monday through Friday from 8 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 5 pm. ~ Mark Schleiden, Director of Operations Guest Pass Review
