FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2018 17
Hi, my name is Sunshine! At least that's the name my new
mom gave me. I don't remember what my name was before
she rescued me. I was found with no ID, no microchip, no
history. My mom saw my photo on the shelter's website and
decided that she HAD to meet me. She had lost her very
special girl and was looking to rescue another dog – and there
I was. That was last year, she rescued me on July 29, 2017.
The shelter told mom I was between three and five years
old, so she settled on four. The nice vet told her that was about
right. I had my beautiful coat clipped off when I got to the
shelter because it was so matted. The only fur that was left
was on my head (see before photo). As you can see, I am a
very furry girl, and have a beautiful tail, of which I am very
proud.
Mom has always had Chow Chow mixes – anyway I'm the
third Chow girl she has adopted. When she rescued the girl
she had before me, the lady at the rescue told her that Chows
bond with their people for life. Also, that we are very cat-like.
Some people think we're aloof, but we just are reserved. We
need to get to know you better before we warm up to you.
I was very wary of both dogs and people when I first came
to live with my mom. She says that all I wanted to do was
sleep for the first few months. I was probably very tired from
running and running and not having enough to eat. It took
me several months before I realized that Sunshine was my
name. Mom sings You are my Sunshine to me a lot.
When I finally was able to relax and start to enjoy life, Mom
started to take me on pack walks. At first I was afraid of both
people and other dogs. Over the last few months I began to
realize that they are my FRIENDS! Now I am eager to jump in
the car and go to meet them. ~ Sharon Bond
