FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2018 41 Let's Dance The next Line Dance Sock Hop is Friday, Aug. 17, from 5 to 8:30 pm in the Ballroom. Come and have dinner (BYOB) and enjoy dancing to a variety of music. We do various line dances including the Electric Slide, the Cupid Shuffle, Wagon Wheel and others. Our DJ, Dave Rohrbacker, also plays some music that you can do the swing or slow- dance to. Come and join us! The Beginner's Class that began in July continues in August with new dances being added each week. It is Tuesdays at 2 pm in the Ballroom. The eight-week course (July and August) helps you master the basic steps to some simple dances. Dances will be repeated each week to make sure you are ready to move on to some new dances and steps. The full eight weeks of classes will give you a great introduction to many of the dances we do at the Sock Hops and at Karaoke. The next eight-week Beginning Class will start in October and continue in November. There will not be a Beginning Class in September or December, but will start again in January/February. The Intermediate Class starts at 3 pm. There is less step-by-step teaching, except for new dances. A quick review of the steps will be done as needed for familiar dances. The Advanced Class starts at 3:45 pm. New dances are introduced, but you need to know the basic steps very well, and be an experienced dancer. Bring water and wear shoes that can slide on the wood floor. So, if you want to be more active and have fun doing it, join us on Tuesday afternoons for Country Line Dance in the Ballroom. Martha Franck volunteers her time as our leader. Janine Rohrbacker is her able assistant! A weekly donation of $1 will go toward our parties and sock hops. Bring your friends! ~ Martha Franck Line Dancing We hope you got your tickets early and will be joining us on Aug. 4 in the Ballroom for our Summer Fun Dinner and Dance Party. We know you will have a great evening of good music, food, fun and "dancing the night away." Our dance group is just regular folks having fun. We move to the music and dance like no one is watching. It's much more than just dancing… it's friendship, accomplishment, learning, social support, exercise for our bodies and minds, and above all – great fun! Our dance for the month of August is Swing. For the newcomers and beginners, we will be learning the East Coast Swing which is the most familiar to most of us. It is danced under fast swing music, including rock and roll and boogie-woogie. Intermediate and advanced dancers will be learning the West Coast Swing, which is also known as the Lindy or Jitterbug. Both partners are doing different steps yet still dancing together; this is one of the most popular dances in Southern California. We'll crank up the rock and roll. Plan to come and join us in the ballroom on Monday nights. You will be glad you did! From 6 to 7 pm we welcome newcomers and beginners. From 7 to 8 pm is intermediate and advanced. Cost is $10 per person for up to 1½ hours of lessons.
