"The more we give, the happier we feel. Volunteering increases self-confidence. You are doing good for others and the community, which provides a natural sense of accomplishment. Your role as a volunteer can also give you a sense of pride and identity." Kindness Award: The Kindness Award recipient for July is resident and Team Sunshine member Rose Harvey. We are so used to Rose doing many thoughtful things, we might just say, "Oh, that's our Rose," but this time we want to say more. This month we want to thank and show appreciation to Rose for a special act of kindness. Four Seasons Resident, Carolyn Lebo, was in need of a ride to the doctor, so she called a Sunshiner seeking help. The Sunshiner explained that we do not provide this service, but offered to check around in an effort to find someone who could help. Well, Rose Harvey was called, but before the Sunshiner could explain the purpose of her call, Rose spoke right up and told her that "she had already told Carolyn Lebo that she would take her to her doctor's appointment." She had somehow found out there was a need for this service and she had stepped in to provide it. For this and so much more that she does every month, we would like to present the July 2018 Kindness Award to our own, Rose Harvey. Programs: Our June 20 program featured Pat Hall who presented a program, entitled "Do You Really Know Your Ancestors?" Pat explained Genealogy and how you can get started learning about your ancestors. Her presentation was interesting and informative. Thank you, Pat. July 18 – Officer Andrew Reynoso from the Hemet Police K-9 Unit with his buddy, Duke, were a big hit with the Four Seasons folks. We are dog lovers for sure. Officer Reynoso explained their role in protecting the Hemet community. Kudos to this officer and his dedication. We found his presentation enlightening, interesting and meaningful. Thank you Officer Reynoso and your pal, Duke! Activities Team: A first time special event is planned for Oct. 30 at 11 am. We are excited to share that we are planning a Halloween Doggie Parade. We are finalizing the details and will be ready soon to launch this information to the community. Four Seasons is a dog-lover's paradise. Anyone who is out early in the morning will attest to that. Mark your calendar for Oct. 30 and plan to join us. Fall Marketplace: Team Sunshine has reserved a booth at the Fall Marketplace and plan to have "White Elephant" items for sale. The items will be priced low and we know, from past experience, that folks love to linger over "gems" that have been loved before. Make sure you put Team Sunshine on your list of "must" stops at the Fall Marketplace. Celebrations of Life/Memorials: We were saddened to learn that Patrick Barry passed away recently. Our condolences go to his wife, Ginette, and family. We also received word that Nick Holslag passed away. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Lee, his wife and family. There may be others in the community who have lost loved ones. We are not always aware of these losses but our sincerest sympathies go out to those in the community who are mourning the loss of a loved one. Losing a loved one can be a highly charged and very traumatic time. Though coping with loss can be a deeply personal experience, reaching out and sharing can also be part of the healing process. We are here to assist in any way we can to make this journey easier. Team Sunshine "Needs" Information: Please fill out a *NEEDS* Form at the Lodge Front Desk if you know of someone who has recently lost a loved one. This form can also be used for various kinds of needs assistance. In case you prefer not to call but would like us to know of a need, this form will record your concern and will be passed on to the appropriate Team Sunshiner. Medical Equipment: We do have donated medical equipment that we deliver and pick up from residents. Residents who request medical equipment are required to sign a waiver form. Return of medical equipment is requested by contacting Jeanne Lincoln (765-7112). Many thanks for your cooperation. Closing Thoughts: "The point of living and of being an optimist, is to be foolish enough to believe the best is yet to come." - Peter Ustinov, English actor and author (1921 - 2004) "With each sunrise we are given a chance for a new beginning!"
