32 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2018 | On Sept. 9, the Friendship Club presents BROADWAY'S BEST, starring Patricia Welch and Terri Olsen. In this one-of-a-kind show, these two Broadway veterans recreate showstoppers from Broadway and the movies with costumes and visuals! Patricia Welch trained in classical opera and starred as Tuptim with Yul Brynner in the Broadway musical, "The King and I." She was featured with Wayne Newton in Las Vegas and also performed a PBS Special with the late Robert Goulet. Welch performed as a featured soloist with orchestras including LA Pops, Orange County Symphony, Pacific Palisades Orchestra, San Juan Capistrano Symphony, and Jonathan Pops Orchestra. Terri Olsen appeared in Broadway shows and did background vocal work for stars such as Carly Simon. She was also featured in The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies. Olsen is an accomplished actress, singer and dancer, whose career began at 18. While studying at San Jose State University, she was chosen out of 500+ people to be an original member of the singing and dancing musical review "Music America." The show ran five times a day, seven days a week. It was a grueling schedule, but she loved performing – she could sing, dance, act, and she had good comedic timing. After two years at "Music America," Olsen headed for Los Angeles to work in show business. While doing TV commercials, she landed her first TV role as "Elizabeth" in Hallmark Hall of Fame's "Stubby Pringle's Christmas" starring Beau Bridges and Kim Hunter. She toured with "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" for two years, then moved to New York, where she landed her first Broadway show, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." She went on to perform in three more Broadway shows: "Into the Light," "Starlight Express," and "Jerry's Girls." After 10 years in New York, Olsen returned to California and performed in The Fabulous Palm Spring Follies until it closed. She still delights audiences with her amazing vocal range and mix of vocal selections. Tickets are $20 for members, $25 for non-resident guests. Doors open at 6 pm, show begins at 7 pm. Make checks out to Friendship Club, and deliver them to 5168 Rio Bravo Drive. For cancellations and information, call Pat (845-3789) or Judy (797-0265). A delicious buffet dinner is available in the restaurant for show goers by reservation only, beginning at 4:30 pm. Call the hostess (769-6654) for more information. The Friendship Club
