60 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2018 | Friends we will miss Josephine (Jo Jo) Mary Byrne Our dear mother, born March 19, 1925, Josephine (JoJo) Mary Byrne, passed away this morning August 8, 2018. Mom was one of twelve children born to the Italian Mucciolis of New York. By trade JoJo was a skilled seamstress in her early years and a hairdresser in later years until retirement. JoJo married the first love of her life Paul DelGatto, Sr., who predeceased her Sept. 12, 1964. They had four children: Paul DelGatto, Jr., Raymond DelGatto, Barbara Del Gatto-Jesus (Bobbie to mom), and a beautiful daughter Christina DelGatto who predeceased her in June 2017. Josephine had a wonderful second marriage for 30 years to Edward G. Byrne, who predeceased her in 2008. After Edward died Mom moved to Sun Lakes to live with her daughter, Barbara, and her son-in-law, Jay Jesus. Mom had a wonderful ten years in Sun Lakes and enjoyed the many amenities: bingo, bunco, bowling, and especially dancing at the lounge. Crazy dancing Jo Jo they called her. She would wiggle her butt, flirt, and sing along to her favorite songs. Mom specialized in making people laugh and having fun. Thank you to my husband who helped take care of her all those years while I worked. Thank you to all the people who helped Mom enjoy the pastimes at Sun Lakes: Helene Kassman, Doris Thompson, Vivian Damjanovic, and the 80s Club. We will miss her but glad her recent suffering on earth has ended. "She is no more but we live in thankfulness that she was." You are gonna rock and roll them in heaven mom. Rest in peace dearest Mother. Bob Jensen A wonderful man passed away a few weeks ago, just after his 87th birthday. Bob Jensen was born in Los Angeles on June 22, 1931. He graduated from Eagle Rock High School, and married Janice Brown In Yuma, Arizona, in 1952. He was in the navy for four years during the Korean War, serving as an airplane mechanic. Bob graduated from Occidental College with a degree in music, then earned a degree in Music Education from Cal State LA. He began his teaching career in Inglewood, and moved to Banning in 1961. He taught general music, and high school vocal music for 31 years in Banning Unified School District until he retired in 1992. He also taught history, geography, and special education in his last few years at Banning HS. While teaching music, he also taught driver's training each afternoon until he retired. Bob taught at least half of all students who obtained their driver's licenses before they graduated from Banning HS during that time period. He directed the United Methodist Church Choir in Banning and played the organ and conducted the choir at Our Savior's Lutheran Church as long as he could. Bob and Janice, who passed away in January, are survived by four of their five children, eight grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren. Bob was an avid sports fan, and was a major, die-hard supporter of the LA Dodgers. He enjoyed traveling, history, geography, current events, and people. Bob was honored in 2008 with a tribute gathering and concert in Banning. More than 100 students who he had taught from 1962 until he retired in 1992 came to honor him. They came from all over the United States and even from foreign countries. Bob and Janice moved to Sun Lakes in January, 1993. They joined many clubs and groups and led very active lives. Bob joined the Sun Lakes Chorale as a bass, became its Vice-President, and then its director in 1996. The Chorale called him "Our Fearless Leader." He is celebrated for his warmth, understanding, dry sense of humor, and the countless stories he told about the felines that ruled his domain and stole his heart. His daughter found a quote in his belongings that said, "I'm not gone, I'm ahead, waiting for you."
