| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2018 | 33 Yiddish Culture Club This month the members of the YCC will celebrate Rosh Hashanah, which literally means beginning or head of the year, and commemorates the creation of the world. It also marks the start of the Days of Awe, a 10- day period of introspection and repentance culminating in Yom Kippur the Day of Atonement. We do this in the Synagogue and at home. Then, on Wed., Sept. 12, we will join with our YCC friends in a catered celebratory New Year's dinner in the South Clubhouse which will include such traditional foods as gefilte fish, chicken matzah ball soup, challa, roast tri tip and roast chicken, veggies, roast potatoes with onions, honey cake, tea and coffee. Cost for this feast is $20 pp for members and $23 pp for non-member guests. You may bring your own wine to this clubhouse. It is also traditional to "Sweeten" the New Year with apples dipped in honey. However, we have discovered an even better way. Miss Vicki Knight will again entertain us with her songs that bring good memories and are a joy to hear. Originally from Winnipeg, Canada, where she still performs in the summer, Vicki is now a resident of Palm Springs and is known as "The Songbird of the Desert," performing in many venues. Pianist Paul Cracchiolo will accompany her. We hope you will join us in this joyous celebration and evening not to be missed. We may even dance the Hora! Reservation form flyers are available in the Main Clubhouse and should be sent to Maryanne Kirschbaum, 6012 Myrtle Beach Dr. If you wish to make up a table of eight please send all checks together in one reservation. Make sure to get your reservations in early since we are limited to 105 persons in this clubhouse and this is always a very special evening spent with good friends, good food, and very enjoyable entertainment. Paisano Club We all enjoyed a wonderful evening on Aug. 3 with Jamestown , Sheila and Larry James. I saw people up dancing that I have never seen dancing before. We also enjoyed a great Luau dinner. Sept. 7 will be our Western Night so put on your best jeans and boots (leave your spurs at home), and bring an appetite for a great Western dinner. Please bring canned or boxed goods to the meeting for the needy in our area. Thank you in advance. Oct. 5 will be our kinda Halloweenish party, costumes are optional. Checks can be mailed or dropped off at 610 Torrey Pines Road (box by front door) or given to Carol Choisnet at the event for the next month's dinner or your dues. Please get your checks in early as we fill up fast, we can only seat 105. We meet on the first Friday of every month. Guests from Sun Lakes can come one time for $20, then if they decide to join they must pay the membership fee of $20 and $16 dinner fee. If you want to bring a guest that isn't a resident of Sun Lakes, the fee is $20. If you have to cancel, you must do so by the Friday prior to the Friday of the event to be reimbursed. Please call Carol Choisnet. Our only requirement to be a member is that you enjoy having fun and love people and come with a hearty appetite. You do not have to worry about where you will sit if you don't know any of our members, as we will seat you at a table with friendly people. If you have any questions, you can call Carol Choisnet regarding reservations at 769- 2616. If you have general questions regarding the club, call our Club President, Clark Robinson at 797-0597 or Vice President, Jeri Wall at (909) 731-3311.
