| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2018 | 3 By Sandra Moyer FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK Fall is almost here. I hope that we see temperatures and humidity fall. On to business, the following are updates on the Board's work in progress. RFP for Management Company: As stated in previous Open Meetings, we received six bids with Associa/PCM being one of the six. We eliminated two and conducted a thorough in-depth interview with the remaining four, narrowing it down to two. The Board set aside time to go and visit properties they manage and talk to their Board members. We also visited their Corporate offices to meet the individuals who would be handling our account – such as financial/accounting, HR, etc. We were given demonstrations of their technology used for accumulation of financials, reports, website, etc. The next step will be to meet with the two finalists and go over the contract with a fine tooth comb. Once our decision is made, the contract will be sent to our attorney for final approval. I want to assure you the Board realizes this is a major decision and we are doing our due diligence throughout this process. We also wanted to protect our employees and all finalists agreed to match their tenure and medical benefits. This will be put into the final contract. We hope to announce our final decision at the September open meeting. Misinformation that needs to be corrected: The FAC does receive the financials each month. In fact, any resident may go to Admin and pick up a copy or read it on the website. We do not use vendors that are affiliated with Associa/PCM. This Board, and past Boards, use independent contractors. Our attorney is not associated with Associa/PCM. He is hired by and works only for the Board. Our auditors are hired by the Board. They do not work for Associa/ PCM, they work for us. Their job is to do financial audits, check on procedures and the inter-workings of the management team. One more very important work in progress the Budget. Here is the schedule: Wed., Aug.22: Mr. Mitchell presented highlights of the draft. Fri., Sept. 7, 9 am in Admin Office: Open Workshop Thurs, Sept. 13, at 2 pm in the South Clubhouse- Delegate meeting- Draft Presentation with Q & A at end. Wed., Sept. 19 at 2 pm in Admin: Final Draft Proposed- open to members Wed., Oct. 10: Board receives final draft Wed., Oct. 24, at 6:30 pm in the Ballroom: Final Approval voted on Fri., Nov. 20: Mailing of 2019 Budget I have given you a lot of information. I ask that if you have a question or concern, please contact a Board member or management. Go to the source to get complete information. The following poem is a little long, but well worth the read! My Soul Has A Hat I counted my years and realized that I have less time to live by, than I have lived so far. I feel like a child who won a pack of candies: at first he ate them with pleasure but when he realized that there was little left, he began to taste them intensely. I have no time for endless meetings where the statutes, rules, procedures and internal regulations are discussed, knowing that nothing will get done. I no longer have the patience to stand absurd people who, despite their chronological age, have not grown up. My time is short: I want the essence, my spirit is in a hurry. I do not have much candy in the package anymore. I want to live next to humans, very realistic people who know how to laugh at their mistakes and who are not inflated by their own triumphs and who take responsibility for their actions. In this way, human dignity is defended and we live in truth and honesty. It is the essentials that make life useful. I want to surround myself with people who know how to touch the hearts of those whom hard strokes of life have learned to grow with sweet touches of the soul. Yes, I'm in a hurry. I'm in a hurry to live with the intensity that only maturity can give. I do not intend to waste any of the remaining desserts. I am sure they will be exquisite, much more than those eaten so far. My goal is to reach the end satisfied and at peace with my loved ones and my conscience. We have two lives and the second begins when you realize you only have one. ~ Mario de Andrade a poet, novelist, essayist and musicologist The deadline for new submissions, changes or additions to Sun Lakes Phone book is Oct. 26.
