58 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2018
The hot weather is continuing to take its toll on the number of Thursday riders. It's been
just too hot to enjoy the ride. One of our favorite routes is taking the 243 from Banning up
to Idyllwild. Sometimes it's just for a casual breakfast in the cool weather of Idyllwild. Other
times, it's a nice way to end up in the desert or in Temecula. However, the recent fire near
Idyllwild has put a stop to this route for the time being.
Bob Howard recently thought he could beat the heat by heading up to Arrowhead. He
thought he had it all figured out by leaving early and taking advantage of the cool mountain
air. Unfortunately, he didn't plan on a rare heavy mountain rain. To make matters worse,
traffic heading down the hill was being turned around by the CHP near Forest Falls. Bob
had to go back up the hill, taking an alternate route to get back to Beaumont. The word is
that he rode over 20 miles in a heavy downpour with no rain gear. Nice try Bob! ~ Jim Ayala
