Landscape Committee 20 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2018 The Facilities Committee is working on a number of maintenance and improvement projects. Management has requested bids from vendors for the installation of automatic door openers to ease handicapped access to the restrooms at The Summit and The Courts. The roller shades in The Lodge Ballroom, Arts & Crafts Room, and the Spa building's Exercise and Aerobics Rooms are in need of replacement. We are moving forward on this project. Bids have also been received from vendors for the replacement of the Spa building Fitness Room flooring. The committee continues to review the expansion of the Arts & Crafts Room by adding an access door to the adjoining room, previously used as the computer room. A meeting was held with representatives of the various craft groups to review flooring, cabinet needs and placement, as well as seating requirements, door type and placement. Several diagrams of the options available were posted by Management for the groups to decide on the best solution. The Facilities Committee looks forward to moving ahead on this project. We welcome Bob Ferrier as a new member of the Facilities Committee. Also congratulations to Joe Barletta, who was appointed Co-Chair of Facilities at the July meeting, and to Hugo Barahona for his promotion to Management Liaison of the Facilities Committee. We currently have several positions open on the Facilities Committee for anyone interested in serving our community. The Facilities Committee meets in the RCN building on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 am. We always welcome residents to join us and share their ideas or concerns. ~ Bruce Lewis Facilities Committee Although the thermometer may not be showing it, we are in the beginning of our Fall season. Plant and vegetation growth is slowing down and the effects of our hot summer are evident throughout the community. This is a good season for cleaning up, trimming back, and planting. Planting now will allow root systems to become established well before the winter freeze. After a great deal of research, including trial and error, your Association Landscape Committee developed a Community Plant Guide which is available on the website. This may be found on the home page in the drop-down topics under HOA. It has lots of good information, pictures, and lists of trees/plants to avoid, as well as lists of preauthorized and recommended trees/plants that have demonstrated good variety, growth, and tolerance of our local climate. Check it out! It is not meant to be all-inclusive, but using this information will enhance your landscape creativity and success, as well as provide cost savings. Please remember that plans for front yard landscaping and plantings need to be approved by the Architectural Review Committee. The landscape diversity in Four Seasons has evolved during the last 12 plus years of building, growth, and development. We all appreciate and want to maintain our oasis and the beauty of our oasis. The Landscape Committee observes and monitors the condition and maintenance of all the common areas, trails, and yards that are maintained under the Association cost center. This is done during committee walks on a pre-scheduled area rotation every Friday morning. Our regular meetings are held at 1pm on the third Tuesday of each month. We welcome and encourage new committee members, as well as any suggestions, comments and concerns from all residents. This may be done in person at our meetings, by a phone call to the Association office or front desk, or in writing using the form available on the website. Your Landscape Committee members are simply resident volunteers doing our best to maintain this community's beautiful landscape as efficiently as possible. ~ Bonnie Makela
