56 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2018 I've been playing paddle tennis for six or seven years. I'm not sure since I am getting older and can't remember simple things like "Where are my keys?" Paddle tennis suits me though. I use to play regular tennis, but now the smaller court and slower balls of paddle tennis fits my current physical abilities. A couple of years ago, when we were sharing the courts with pickleball, my son and I used the tennis courts because the paddle tennis courts were taken. After playing on the paddle tennis court, the regular tennis court looked like an airport runway. I could barely see my opponent on the other side. This year we have seen more women coming out to play. Some are just beginners and others have played tennis before. It doesn't take long to adapt to this game if you are a former tennis player. You just have to get used to the shorter length paddle verses the tennis racket. A few years back we formed a Paddle Tennis Committee. These are all volunteer positions and anybody can ask to be rotated in. The committee was formed to make decisions on play rules and play time changes. Sometimes we set up a fun tournament or suggest a pot luck get-together. The current committee members are Jose "Paco" Paez, Hailu Kinde, Tracy Maxwell, Diana Ali, Terry Miller, and Alan Chan. Suggestions are always welcome from all the players and we solicit opinions on any pending changes. Paco conducts beginners' practice on Tuesday at 11 am for those who would like to try the game first. You can email him at jpaez111555@gmail.com if you would like to give it a try. The Breeze publishes paddle tennis play times. Come out and join us for exercise and social interaction. ~ Terry Miller Paddle tennis Terry Miller and Gary Campanella
