24 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | OCTOBER 2018 | Leslie Bucari and her creative sculptures. Jackie Hansen and her Fiber Art When I was artist of the month last time, it was for my paintings. My latest work is almost all in fibers and fabrics. Quilting, hand dyeing, batiking, felting, creating fabric using silk fusion, and discharging fabric and finding a way to combine techniques occupies my time now. After my early childhood days of painting and drawing, my maternal grandma came to baby sit me and brought her treadle sewing machine. I was old enough to learn sewing basics while making doll clothes. By junior high, I was making my own clothes and in high school I designed and made clothes for friends and relatives. For about 10 years, I designed and manufactured a Western body shirt that was well received by my fellow horse show competitors. But when styles changed in the horse show world, I closed that business except for a few special custom customers. My love of sewing, lead me to quilting classes where I made some traditional quilts. Never one to get too traditional, I sought out more artsy quilters and found the classes I wanted at Quilter's Studio in Newbury Park. It was like coming full circle back to my drawing and painting background and being able to manipulate fibers as art. I'm still constantly pushing the "ideas ball" uphill for less and less constraint in my work. Hmm, that gives me an idea for another wall hanging. ~ Jackie Griffin-Hansen Lodge Gallery Wall and Cabinet - The walls and cabinet for the month of October is the artwork of artists Jackie Hansen and her Fiber art, along with Leslie Bucari in the cabinet with her creative sculptures. Our Gallery always has such wonderful works on display, so let the artists know you enjoy seeing their work. Art & Craft Classes - Royce Jerman - Instructor: Painting Pals - we have been painting together almost 10 years! We started painting as a traditional tole painting class by painting only on wood. However, we have evolved over the years. We paint on almost anything including fabric, wood, slate tiles but mostly we paint on canvas! We paint many different subject matters from ocean scenes to winter scenes, garden scenes to portraits, Christmas ornaments to bird houses and even a four seasons collection. We always say if we don't like it we'll paint over it. There's nothing we can't fix! We meet every Tuesday from 10 am - 1 pm. Come in and check out the painters progress. Beading Buddies - we have been together almost nine years! We started as a tatting class and have evolved as well. We still tat, however, most of us have moved on to beading. We make gorgeous beaded Christmas ornament covers, beaded necklaces, crystal beaded bracelets and everyone makes Kumihimo necklaces. We even restore broken jewelry or precious family jewelry pieces. We do just a bit of everything. Mostly we have FUN! We meet every Wednesday from 10 am - 1 pm. Drop by anytime and see what we're making now. Lois Stipp - Instructor - Lois returns to Hemet in October and will resume teaching her Drawing and Painting classes. Sign-up sheets are in the Art Room. Fee.
