Welcome to the Fall season here in the San Jacinto Valley. It seems that this Summer, with its lengthy spate of triple-digit weather, was reluctant to let go and allow some more pleasant and tolerable weather to prevail. Mark Twain is credited for saying, "Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it." Actually, Mark Twain didn't really say that. It actually came from his friend Charles Dudley Warner, with whom he wrote the novel The Gilded Age but even so, the wording was a bit different. But, Twain did have plenty to say about the weather. Here, are a few quotes from his works; "Climate is what we expect, weather is what we get." "When a person is accustomed to 138 in the shade, his ideas about cold weather are not valuable." Yes, Mr. Twain certainly had a way of using his wit to educate us! Hopefully, we will experience some pleasant Fall weather now, and perhaps even some much-needed rain in the coming months! In last month's Board Message, we shared our Vision, Mission and Values Statements with you. We trust that you found them to be acceptable. We continue to progress with the development of our Strategic Plan for our Four Seasons community. Most recently, we have had several joint meetings with our Finance Committee to review and closely scrutinize our budget. Our overarching objective is to ensure that we are being prudent with our fiduciary responsibilities. As you know, our HOA income is quite static because our primary source of revenue is monthly dues. However, expenses are not at all static and are subject to increases beyond our control. For example, projected increases in the minimum wage has an impact on every business with which we have contracts. As you would expect, the consequential pass through of these costs will impact our contracts for services such as; landscape maintenance, access control and roving patrol, custodial maintenance, pool/spa maintenance and management services. So, a critical component of our Strategic Plan is to anticipate increases in operational expenses and evaluate them to ensure that we are operating as efficiently as possible. Most assuredly we will seek home owner involvement in this process. We wish to offer a very sincere "thank you" to all of you who have expressed appreciation for the information we share in our Board Message each month in the Four Seasons Hemet Herald magazine. We really do endeavor to make these communications enlightening and we are gratified to know that you are reading them. Also, within the pages is a plethora of information and activities shared in articles submitted by our standing committees and clubs. Our Manager and Activities Director likewise provide very informative and timely information. Frequently, questions are posed on social media seeking information about topics that have been addressed in the Herald or through E-blasts. We also have a continuous loop electronic display board in the Lodge lobby that is a good source of information. Occasionally, special notices are provided as inserts in your monthly billing statements. All of these measures are in use to help keep everyone informed about important topics. Thus, the best source of accurate information is from those persons or committees directly associated with a particular event, activity or issue. To quote the English philosopher, Francis Bacon, "Knowledge is power." So please avail yourselves of these informational sources. And, continue to read the Herald magazine from cover to cover because each issue has valuable content that affects your enjoyment of this wonderful community! Message From the Board of Directors Sincerely, and on behalf of your Board of Directors, Jim Hatcher, Ken Pounders, Tony Criscenti, Gene Hikel, Jim Crase, and Greg Rockvam, Russ Brown President 2 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | OCTOBER 2018 |
