46 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2018 |
Tree Of Life
by Dee Kaplan
Oh, it was so cold, and she trembled; and the ground at her feet
was damp.
It was time, she thought, and the sparrows echoed her desires.
Subtly and slowly the sun crawled to the horizon, each inch of
solar warmth invading her mass.
"Now get ready," she signaled her children, and she pushed and
pushed hard.
Her trunk, her limbs, her leaves and buds beckoned — and the
petals responded.
They began to emerge, opening up, spreading scent and color.
And her boughs quivered and expressed love for her — so brave,
so gallant, preparing the first blossom,
Heralding the first sign of spring — the first commitment to
earth's beauty.
With great humility, she bows her flowered headdress and sighs
deeply, feeding the new life.
Now freely and fully, the tiny blooms explode, welcoming the
valiant appearance of spring—
And ushering out the close of winter.
