| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2018 | 7 We would like to thank all District Delegates and Alternate Delegates for giving up their time to represent their Sun Lakes District. Your efforts are the connector between the Homeowners Association Board of Directors and your residents. This satisfies a great need. An informed Homeowners Association in any community breeds an active and stable group of people. Lately we have had a very difficult time getting candidates to fill the Delegate and Alternate Delegate positions. There is always a need for "new blood" replacements to take the places of retiring officials. It usually results in new ideas and subjects being considered. It allows the group to grow and better represent their constituents. Usually Delegates and Alternates live in the District they are representing, but it is possible to live in one District and represent another. At the present time we have a District without representation. The situation is the District has no newsletter, no events and has no connection to the community. The District Delegate Assembly was set in place by the builder in 1987. As homes were built, the neighborhoods were put together and formed a District. Based on the CC&R's and By-Laws, the Districts elected a representative, which resulted in the District Delegate Assembly. In our HOA we have 51 elected officials: five members on the Board of Directors and 23 District Delegates and 23 Alternate Delegates to assist the Delegate. What does a District Delegate do? There are some differences in the operations of Districts one to another. Usually the District Delegate publishes a newsletter. He/she will hold events, such as: dinners, breakfasts, brunches, game nights, and many other kinds of social events. Some Delegates appoint committees to assist doing these chores. They will answer the requests of their residents about who to call or see for a specific problem or situation, or give the answer themselves. They will attend the monthly Delegate Assembly meeting. There is a great deal of information learned which is imparted to the residents. They will debate and vote on the recommendations that are sent to the Board of Directors for the betterment of Sun Lakes. Further, the Districts donate to the needy at Christmas time in the Holiday Wish Program. Once a year they donate food and funds to the Banning Senior Center. Some Districts hold fund raisers for their own charities. What the District does is dictated by the Delegate and his/her residents. We are fortunate to have had some great residents leading us in the past. Thank you for keeping up the tradition.
