Welcome to the first step on the journey to making the Breeze! From the 1st to the 9th of each month, fourseasonsnews@yahoo. com receives over 100 email submissions for the following month's Breeze. Courtney and Stacey at Image Up place the articles and photos into the initial proof, preparing for the first editing session on the 10th. If you've sent in your article on time, you can move ahead. (It's Kris Corbett, in case you moved ahead and didn't know. Cheater.) After the Editorial Board makes their corrections, the PDF is sent to Jolie at Bold Images, the company who oversees the printing. Jolie proofs it AGAIN and usually finds a handful of changes. Fun fact: the Breeze is one of the most proofed magazines in the world. If you knew that, move ahead one space. file. which printer-friendly no longer Really Interesting The Editorial Board meets for their monthly planning meeting on the first Wednesday of the month. They review last month's issue for any errors and discuss solutions. The upcoming month's magazine is then addressed and articles are assigned to members to write. If you liked last month's issue of the Breeze, you can move ahead. Image Up takes the marked proofs and makes corrections, a one to two day job. A final PDF is emailed to the Editor-in-Chief and a couple of select proofers on the Editorial Board for a last proof. They send about two more pages of corrections. If you know who the Editor in Chief is, move ahead. Between the 1st and the 9th of the month, Image Up is furiously preparing a proof for the meeting on the 10th. They are copying and pasting from Word docs, emails, or text documents. All photos have to be taken into Photoshop, converted from RGB (red, green, blue) to CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) for printing. Any blurry or low resolution photos are rejected. If you submit clear, high-res photos, move ahead. It's the 10th! Proofing meeting! The Editorial Board brings their red pens and each page is proofed twice for grammar and punctuation. The calendar is reviewed by FirstService staff, so if you have any date changes, they need to know first. Advance if you had no typos! 8 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2018
