"Deck the halls..." It's almost the holiday season and many of us are starting to think about decking our own halls. The phrase 'deck the halls' comes from a sixteenth-century English carol and means decorating the rooms. But let's fast forward to Four Seasons at Beaumont in 2018 and update it to include outside walls and halls as well. Four Seasons always looks great during the holidays with many beautiful seasonal displays. Some of our groups and clubs may schedule evening walks to enjoy the lights and decorations. It is a special time of the year with many celebrations being held including Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Our decorations showcase the diversity of our community. The Community Guidelines include the rules for these displays. Residents do not need approval from the Architectural Review Committee to put up holiday lighting. Lights may be installed no earlier than one week prior to Thanksgiving Day but cannot be turned on before that day. Other winter holiday decorations are not permitted earlier than Thanksgiving Day. We can enjoy the decorations until Jan. 15, the last day to display them. The displays must not be a nuisance for surrounding neighbors and may result in a nuisance violation if they are deemed to be. It's fun to take a walk or drive to see the decorations. If you are driving, remember that the speed limit is 30 miles per hour on Four Seasons Circle and 25 miles per hour on all side streets. Speeding is dangerous and remains a major concern for many of our residents. A good rule is to slow down on our streets at all times of the year. You may not find this in our Community Guidelines but it is a good motto to live by. The Rules & Regulations Committee meets at 9 am on the second Tuesday of the month in the RCN Conference Room. We are looking for new committee members but welcome the participation of all residents. Please join us for one of our interesting and informative meetings. See you there! ~ Margie Chadburn Rules & Regulations committee FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2018 21 Emergency Preparedness Committee The EPC Committee was recently asked to alert our CERT Teams. In the past, we had as many as 30 CERT- trained people. Most CERT trained were members of the EPC Survey Team. The EPC Committee and its corresponding teams have been decimated by deaths, relocations, insurance liability, and just plain apathy. The CERT trained Survey Team was a vital part of our emergency response community. CERT is the Community Emergency Response Team that is usually activated during a disaster. CERT members are trained in Disaster Preparedness, Incident Command System, Disaster Medical operations (assessments, triaging and establishing a treatment area), Fire Suppression and light Search and Rescue. Unlike CERT teams in surrounding communities there has not been any existing program for CERT trained residents to practice their craft. The CERT program is the basis for many of the EPC Committee's teams, Fire Suppression, First Aid and Survey to name a few. The desire for better communications led us to starting our own Four Seasons Beaumont Radio Club so that we could talk to the world outside of our community. In order for us to have an effective disaster response program we need trained CERT teams. Much like fish that are caught and released we have the same thing in CERT. There are quite a few residents who caught up on CERT training but they have been released into the wilds of Four Seasons without anyone knowing who they are. The Emergency Preparedness Committee has asked for assistance from the Neighborhood Watch Program in locating CERT-trained individuals. The Neighborhood Watch Block Captains will be asking you to fill out a short survey form to let us know about your CERT credentials. The Emergency Preparedness Committee meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 10 am in the RCN Conference Room. The next meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 20. ~ Mike Mendoza
