34 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2018
Mixed Media Arts Class
This is the perspective of the artist of the month
Theresa Schipske:
I started attending the art class, taught by Rob
Kelman, at the insistence of my husband Norm. He
had painted and drawn in the past, but I NEVER
tried to draw or paint. Rob calls me a "tag-a-long"
since I came to keep my husband company. I didn't
think I could draw, especially with my first attempt
"The Elephant." It took a couple of tries until I
felt comfortable with my first drawing. I felt more
confident with each drawing, listening to Rob's suggestions, "add another value
of color, and try a little purple for your shadow." I would have never thought
to do that.
I look at everything differently now. I look at how shadows give personality
to the trees. I go to art shows looking closely to see how the artist achieved a
feature in painting to see if I could duplicate it. I have tried several different
media - graphite, colored pencils, acrylics and watercolors. My featured picture,
in colored pencils, is the one that makes me the most proud.
If you have never drawn or painted, come visit Rob's classes and see your
world with new eyes.
Classes are FREE and are Mondays 10 am to 12 noon and/or Wednesdays 6
to 8 pm. Any questions, call Rob Kelman at (951) 992-9156. ~ Rob Kelman
