FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2018 45 The Chocolate Factory "… Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." - Forrest Gump "There are many different types of chocolate. Dark chocolate is healthy, milk chocolate is creamy, and white chocolate is sweet." - FactsAboutChocolate. com The AACC is the "Chocolate Shop" of Four Seasons. Our club is comprised of different types of people coming together to participate in African-American culture. Together, we devise exciting and creative ways to share the black experience through education and social events. This year's Christmas Gala theme is the "Chocolate Factory" and yes, we will have real chocolate there! Join us on Dec. 8, for appetizers, dinner, door prizes, and dancing. Remember to bring your own spirits. To purchase tickets for this great event, call Regina Thomas at (909) 534-4918. Black History Month, celebrated in February, began as a way of remembering important black people and events in history all over the African diaspora. One of the founders of Black History Month was Carter G. Woodson, a 1926 historian, who argued that the teaching of black history was essential to ensure the mental, emotional, physical and intellectual survival of our race within broader society. He stated, "If a race has no history, it has no worthwhile traditions; becoming a negligible factor in the thought of the world, and stands in danger of being exterminated." Juneteenth is a national holiday that represents freedom and independence for black people in America. When looking at the history of the United States, it isn't pretty. For over 300 years, white America has used black people to elevate and maintain their way of life. Today, African-Americans celebrate their rise from slavery on Juneteenth with music, food, dancing and fun. "Jazz and Blues under the Stars," held at the Amphitheater on Sept. 22, was a heavenly experience. Under a full moon, people were chilling out and relaxing in lawn chairs enjoying popcorn, pretzels, Jell-O shots and wine. The music was soothing and the weather was fantastic. Who should join the AACC? Anyone with a heart for black people, black culture or black experiences. Meetings are the first Monday of the month in The Lodge Card Room at 6 pm.
