54 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2018 Tennis Club October started the new season for the Four Seasons Tennis Club. We held our annual meeting and dinner at the RCN and celebrated a successful 2018 year. Among the happenings during the 2018 season was the establishment of a series of lessons and practices for tennis "Newbies" and "Renewbies." Led by committee members Chuck Beckman and Irve Sturner, those Saturday and Tuesday lessons helped the Tennis Club add some new members and expand our activities. Many of the new and "newish" members participated in the October Play Day, including Linda, Emilio, Liz, Tim, Randy, and Darryl, giving us enough players to keep all four courts busy for the morning. Afterwards, some of the players enjoyed a couple of Smitty's "everything" pizzas on the patio of The Courts. At the annual meeting and dinner, members renewed their membership for a measly $20 and received the 2019 stickers for their club badges. The evening was planned and organized by committee members Bernadette Martin, Chuck Beckman, Irve Sturner and Howard Lyon. I just write about it. The committee members continue in their positions for the 2019 season, with elections for the next two- year terms taking place in October 2019 at the annual meeting. Other activities are planned for the new season, including a reciprocal club event with our neighbors at Sun Lakes. Last spring, we hosted them at The Courts (when we were not bummed out by the rare rainy Saturday), and now the Sun Lakes Tennis Club will host a morning of social tennis at their facilities. The tennis will be followed by a non-hosted BBQ and potluck. Free lessons and practice are held at 7 pm (watch for a change to 6 pm when we turn the clocks back an hour) on Thursday evenings and at 10 am Saturdays, but only Saturdays that are not Play Days or other club events. Play Days are open to all residents of Four Seasons Beaumont on the last Saturday of the month starting at 8:30 am. Sometimes there are donuts or muffins, but always there's some low- stress tennis (the scores are never reported here) and camaraderie. ~ Steven Hovey Water Volleyball With our weather turning cool and The Courts pool no longer being heated, Monday 12 – 1 pm pool volleyball is canceled until March/ April of 2019. This was our first season of play and I must say our skill level improved over the course of the spring and summer months. Thank you to all of the players who showed up each week — we had a ton of laughs and more and more rallies as the season progressed. ~ Barbara Miller Ping Pong Have you been told that you need to get out and be more active? Been told that you need to get a workout but the gym just isn't your thing? Ping pong may just be the answer and more. Ping pong will improve your hand-eye coordination, develop mental acuity, improve reflexes, burn calories, improve balance, and is easy on the joints. As an extra added bonus, you can have fun and meet new people. We are a fun group and are always looking for new players. Come on out and join the fun! ~ Tracey Laykoff
