Kindness Awards – September/October: We were not able to share this photo in the October Herald but we do so now. Congratulations again to Dr. Lohnert for his restoration of artwork in the Ballroom. October Nominee for Kindness Award: Donna McLaughlin had a crisis when she found herself in need of a ride to the Palm Springs Airport for an emergency trip to see her sister. She was frantic, at the Lodge, wondering aloud how she would get to the airport on time. Patti Jones just happened to overhear her and promptly spoke up and said, "I will take you." Without hesitation this kind lady stepped forward, to not only get her to the airport, but also to relieve some of Donna's stress about her sister by telling her funny jokes along the way. Both Donna and Team Sunshine want to thank and show our appreciation to Patti Jones for her spontaneous act of Kindness by awarding her the October 2018 Team Sunshine Kindness Award. Program for October: Team Sunshine's program for October was a presentation by Brian Adkins, FBI Special Agent. He detailed a case presentation involving corruption and fraud at the Veteran Affairs Campus in West Los Angeles. We thank him again for his presentations for Team Sunshine. They are always interesting and informative. Celebrations of Life/Memorials: We just learned of the passing of Paul Henderson (Marilyn Thiel's son). Our condolences to Marilyn and her family. Also, we are saddened by the passing of Bob Sullivan. Bob's wife, Christine, is a member of Team Sunshine. Our heartfelt sympathy goes to Chris and the Sullivan family. There may be others in the community who have lost loved ones. We are not always aware of these losses but our sincerest sympathies go out to those in the community who are mourning the loss of a loved one. Team Sunshine "Needs" Information: Please fill out a NEED Form at the Lodge Front Desk if you know of someone who has recently lost a loved one. This form can also be used for various kinds of needs assistance. In case you prefer not to call but would like us to know of a need, this form will record your concern and will be passed on to the appropriate Team Sunshiner. Medical Equipment: We do have donated/used medical equipment that we deliver and pick up from residents. Residents who request medical equipment are required to sign a waiver form. Return of medical equipment is requested by contacting Jeanne Lincoln (765-7112). Many thanks for your cooperation. Our Prayer Warriors: Marietta Ruppaner conducts a prayer circle once a month to pray for our residents in need. All are welcome to attend the prayer circle. Just give Marietta a call and she'll give you the date, time and place. Also, if you have a prayer request, get in touch with Marietta or place your prayer request in the Prayer Box in the MPR. We are thankful for the service they give to our community. Closing Thoughts: "A sense of humor is part of the art of leadership, of getting along with people, of getting things done." - Dwight D. Eisenhower - 34th president of US 1953-1961 (1890 - 1969) "With each sunrise we are given a chance for a new beginning!"
