Thanksgiving dinners take 18 hours to prepare. They are consumed in 12 minutes. Half-times take 12 minutes. This is not a coincidence… ~ Erma Bombeck The Garden Club Presents "A Winter Wonderland" Holiday Luncheon, Dec. 12, 10:30 am – 2 pm. What?! You haven't bought your ticket yet? It's a mere $25 per person for Garden Club Members and Non-Members who are also invited. Elvis has entered the building, yep that's our entertainment. Door prizes, good food, good company… who could ask for anything more? Tickets will be sold in the Main Clubhouse lobby. For ticket sale dates and times, look for the poster and flyers in the Main Clubhouse lobby. This month's guest speaker is Sun Lakes Golf Course Superintendent, Mark Burchfield. Mark has 23 years of experience as a Golf Course Superintendent. He obtained his Turf Degree from Mundus Institute in Arizona, and began his career there in 1995. In 2003 he returned to California, where he managed the golf course at the Victoria Club in Riverside for 10 years. Mark was awarded Golf Course Superintendent of the Year in 2005 by TurfNet Magazine, and he has been the Superintendent of the Sun Lakes Golf courses since 2012. Mark will be speaking about the Master Plan for the golf courses, the new drought tolerant landscaping, and will enlighten us to the requirements for water conservation and the impact the California water restriction rules will have on Sun Lakes. Can you believe it's already November? Some of the things we look forward to and enjoy in this month are: the holidays are coming up; this is the month we fall back, yes it's daylight saving time; the weather is getting colder and we love the fall-scented candles; the simple things we experience at this time of year and innocently enjoying the beauty all around us; the scents and the anticipation of the holidays and overall feelings of joy. Meanwhile back on the gardening front: There's still time to plant daffodil bulbs and other spring flowering bulbs for a magnificent start to next year's display. Plant tulip bulbs now to prevent Tulip Fire Infection (a fungus that infects tulips). Plant hyacinth bulbs for a stunning display next spring. Gather up fallen leaves from the base of your rose bushes which may have suffered from blackspot or rust this summer, to reduce the chance of infection next year. The Garden Club meeting is held on the second Wednesday of the month, at the Main Clubhouse in the Ballroom, at 10 am. If you aren't already a member, what are you waiting for? If you would like to become a member, please contact Suzie Messick at 769-7945. Happy gardening! 50 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2018 | Garden Club
