SHOCKING! EXCURSION SIGN-UPS: All new excursions are not released for sign-up until the FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH BEGINNING AT 8 AM. If the 1st falls on a Saturday or Sunday then sign-ups will begin on the following Monday. If a holiday falls on the first day of the month, sign-ups will begin the next day. WAITING LIST POLICY: The waiting list is created by the Rec. Dept. for sold out events/excursions. This list is used (in order of registration) when the attendee has to cancel due to illness, doctor's appointment, etc. The waiting list is not used for additional sign-ups for secondary excursions that are scheduled due to their popularity. Contact the Rec. Dept. if you have any questions about either of these two policies. WE ACCEPT CHECKS ONLY. You can register up to 4 people (including yourself ) per check per household, payable to Sun Lakes Country Club. All Recreation Classes, Excursions and Special Events are open to residents only, unless otherwise specified. Pechanga The Living Desert and Greek Festival Wed., Feb. 20, 9:30 am – 5 pm, $5 pp. Spend a five hour stay at Pechanga resort and Casino. A vast 200,000 square foot gaming floor makes Pechanga California's biggest casino. Designed with player comfort in mind, the casino is equipped with a state-of-the-art air filtration system and offers extensive non-smoking areas. The casino's well-planned layout allows guests to move easily among more than 3,000+ slot and video machines as well as over 130+ table games. Cocktail service is available to guests on the gaming floor and several bars, lounges and restaurants can be found close to the casino action. Dining options abound at Pechanga including quick service Mexican, Italian, Asian and American food court choices are available. Sat., Feb. 16, 8 am - 3 pm, $47pp. Join this day trip as we visit the Living Desert and afterwards, enjoy lunch (on own) and the festivities of the Greek Festival. We will have our own guide at the Living Desert and private shuttle for two hours. Our shuttle will stop at every major exhibit and our personal tour guide will lead you through the park with fun and interesting commentary. You'll visit the state-of-the-art animal hospital and discover how the team works tirelessly to help save species threatened with extinction. You'll explore the District Commissioner's House, a unique, post-colonial building, closed to the public, for a private viewing of the majestic Amur Leopard. The gardens showcase the diversity of forms adopted by plants found growing in the harsh conditions typical of the world's deserts. Over 1,400 different species of plant are represented in the many gardens that constitute the Living Desert's plant collection. After the Living Desert we will take a short drive to the 22nd Annual Palm Desert Greek Festival, a celebration of Greek culture with live music and traditional folk dancing, handmade crafts, ethnic groceries, Greek jewelry, paintings and much more! Let's not forget the heart of the festival is the homemade Greek food and pastries, created from generational family recipes.
