36 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2018 | HAPPY HOLIDAYS! I wish each one of you a happy and joyful holiday season with family and friends. Each one of you is in my prayers. Our next meeting and support group will be on Thurs., Dec. 20, at 11am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Please note the time change this month only. We will be meeting an hour later than usual. There is no guest speaker this month. You will have the whole two hours for the support group. Please take advantage of this. We are here to support and educate you, plus entertain your loved one while you attend the meeting. Drop your loved one off in the Arts and Craft Room for an hour of live entertainment, exercise, fun and games. All of the volunteers caring for your loved one had a family member with dementia and have experience dealing with this disease. Once again Ed Avina will be entertaining our group in the Arts and Craft Room. If you have any questions, would like to learn more about Memory Loss, or would like reading material that we can loan you. Call Diane, 769-0130, Doug 360-840-5559 or Anne, 845-8700, Remember, we are here to help. Continuing with 50 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE here are #'s 40, 41, 42, 43, and 44. #40 Having information about the disease can help you adapt. #41 Most people with Alzheimer's live at home with family and friends providing much of their care. #42 Alzheimer's affects family members and friends as well as those with the disease. #43 Caring for someone with Alzheimer's can be difficult. #44 Caregiver support groups can help. Memory Care Group We had a new adventure for our October gathering. We'd never done this before but for October, many members brought garage sale items from their own homes and we had a very fun auction for our entertainment. We had well over 50 items to auction off and some went for less than one dollar and many went for $1 to several dollars. This was not a big money event, just great big fun. A lot of laughs were had by all, especially when an item couldn't raise a bid at all so it went free to the next item bidder. On one of those occasions, Carol Martin received a "bonus" item with her bid and later found it online to be worth $250. What a bonus! Thank you for all attendees for making it a joyous occasion for all! Our next gathering will be Dec. 8 for our holiday celebration. We have very special entertainment booked for us that day of our own Sun Lakes, females of The Notables, Razz-Ma-Tazz! This would be a great gathering to 'try us on' and come to a meeting to see if you'd like to join us. We just need to know by the end of November if we need to count you into our catering head count. We will be meeting at 3 pm at the North Clubhouse. Get your reservations in by the end of the month to Sandee at (909) 301- 9044, 1469 Littler for the December gathering for the necessary head count. Spouses and caregivers are welcome to attend as well. Many members bring along their visiting children or other out of town visiting guests. We make everybody feel welcome.
