| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2018 | 7 By Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly Here we are at the beginning of December already! If you ever find out how "time" accelerates as we get older, let us know. Never believed we would be in the 21st century let alone approaching 2019. We have tripped over the fact that as we get older we remember the good times as youngsters but there are good times as "oldsters" too. Look around here, there is every conceivable idea of enjoyment in our complex. There are sports we can participate in, clubs and fun games to enjoy and hobbies to while away our time. Keep in mind there is also participating in the governess or advisory capacity to keep our HOA financially safe and socially happy. It takes a lot of people to control a complex our size. If you add the members of our Board of Directors, the elected members of our District Delegate Assembly and the committee members on our Advisory groups — that is a lot of people! Collectively, under the leadership of our Board of Directors, we keep our HOA solvent and free of debt, maintain the properties in excellent condition and monitor the activities for the pleasure of our residents. We do all of this for $257 a month per home. Remember part of the monthly assessment pays for our Spectrum TV cable. Be mindful that our complex is thirty-some years old and well maintained. I would place it in competition with anything in the famous desert close-by and come out the winner. What do we need to make it better? We need new ideas for our clubs, our amenities and for our way of life here at Sun Lakes Country Club. We certainly need more volunteers to fill the vacancies in all aspects of our infrastructure. Our clubs and groups need more members and more volunteers to continue to operate them. It is beyond belief how our numbers have fallen in volunteers and membership over the years. There was a time when our largest clubs, the Friendship Club and the Garden Club, were almost double the membership they have today. Our golf clubs have experienced the same situation. The Men's Golf Club has almost half the members it enjoyed years ago. Why has all of this happened? Two facts come to mind. Our aging members are passing on or cannot participate any longer. Secondly, we are told many of our new homeowners over the past 10 years are working with no time for joining in the activities. Moreover, their goals are different in retirement than the earlier homeowners. As the newer home owners retire, they are not joining in the fun and activities. It is a dilemma that will have to be solved in the near future. The solution will affect the very existence of Sun Lakes Country Club. In the meantime, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, have a safe and prosperous new year from the District Delegates and Alternate Delegates. District Delegate Assembly Report
