| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | DECEMBER 2018 | 11 Facilities Committee As a Four Seasons volunteer I was able to experience some disturbing incidents during the slurry project. The volunteers were subjected to a variety of issues from humorous to down-right dangerous. • The resident walking his dog only to find out he was on the wrong side of the street that was just slurried and had to retrace his steps so he didn't get the black mixture on their feet. • The many residents that didn't know there was more than one way to travel around our community. • The numerous people that stopped in the middle of the road to tell us that we need to communicate better because they don't go to the Lodge where the street display was up a month before the project and updated daily; don't read the monthly Herald magazine that was created for Four Seasons residents; don't get the email blasts and don't read the flyer in the billing statement; and didn't notice the signs that were placed before the streets were slurried. I don't know how to solve this, as those people won't be reading this article either. • The rush to move your vehicles back to your homes causing the volunteers to dodge vehicles when we are removing the barriers to open the roads. • Numerous drivers speeding through the construction sites while texting on their phone. The inconsiderate and dangerous drivers that made U-turns into the volunteers that were directing traffic on Four Seasons and World Cup, impeding the continuous flow of traffic. • A special thank you to all the residents that drove through the freshly slurried streets, even when the streets were closed off, allowing the community to add to the expense of having to re-slurry the street or repair and clean the black tire marks imprinted in the concrete as they aimlessly drove on their way. One person walked through the freshly slurried road in front of the tennis courts leaving black foot prints along the sidewalk into the middle of the tennis court and back out. • The lady who walked to her mailbox from Inkster now has her footprints immortalized in the streets and sidewalks of Four Seasons. I would guess that she has also figured out that her shoes won't come clean anymore; not to mention the mess it can leave by walking through your house. One of our biggest challenges was making sure there was no water on the streets which prevents the slurry from bonding to the road surface. Many residents over-water their yards so much that the water runs off their lawns and drain pipe for hours after the sprinklers have shut off. To all the residents that water their streets, I would like to tell you it hasn't helped the streets grow any larger than they already are. Excess water damages our streets the same way your yard gets damaged by over-watering. Water is a precious commodity in California and it's a shame to see all the valuable drinking water run down the drain. Given the latest water rate increases one would think that would make more people aware of how much money they are throwing away each month on wasted water. This project was initiated to extend the life of our streets and prevent extensive and expensive repairs in the future which keeps our reserve study funds and monthly HOA fees in check. I would like to thank the small group of volunteers that worked on this project. Their help has been most appreciated given the size of this project. Also, to the residents that have personally thanked the volunteers as we were working throughout the community. We really appreciate your support.
