8 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | DECEMBER 2018 | HO! HO! HO! The holidays are coming! We wish everyone happy holidays. We hope you enjoyed celebrating your Thanksgiving with family, friends and neighbors. The year has passed so quickly, and it's hard to believe that we'll be celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and ringing in the New Year soon! Our Lodge decorating got underway on Nov. 29. Thanks to Roy and Karen Brennon, our maintenance man Tim, and the holiday team for helping to get those decorations out of storage and pieced together! Hope that you all get a chance to get down to the Lodge and see what a great job the volunteers did. Join our Holiday Luncheon on Dec. 6; the Holiday Golf Cart Parade on Dec. 9 followed by the Vintage Voices Program "Christmas in My Home Town;" and the fantastic New Year's Eve celebration, Enchanted Winter Gala. Thank you to our resident volunteers, the Board, Rick, Louise, and staff who helped to make 2018 one of best and most fun years yet. We couldn't have done it without ALL of YOU! Planning is already in the works for 2019. Thanks for the input and ideas everyone provided to help the committee put together a list of events for the new year. Once again, we're looking for volunteers to help out. Any time you can spare would be welcomed, and it's always a great way to get involved in the community and make new friends. Just contact any of our members. Mark your calendars! A few new reminders and a few old ones too regarding ticket sales for our events. Ticket sales now begin at 7 am and will be sold at the main reception desk by the Lodge attendants. They will be able to process all the sales. Please bring your check or credit cards there. Don't forget — a resident may only purchase one table and will need to have an individual check with phone number for each household. A single credit card for each table will be accepted but needs to include names and phone numbers of the attendees. We're hoping this new process will streamline purchasing tickets and make it a little easier for the event committees as well as the residents. We hope you'll all enjoy the 2019 events we have planned. Date TBD - Car Show I have lived in Four Seasons for five years, moving from San Diego, where I lived for 30 years. Raising two boys, working as an educator, kept me busy. I started my career as a teacher in Flagstaff, Arizona. After starting a family in Flagstaff, I moved my small family to San Diego where I took a job as a special education teacher. I met Dave, my current husband, soon after my move. As a bachelor, he had just purchased a small two bedroom, one-bath home. We were married, and he moved all four of us into his home in Oceanside. It was cozy. As the boys grew, we relocated to a larger home in Encinitas where we lived for 25 years. Now, my oldest son lives in Salt Lake City with his wife and two daughters, and my youngest son lives in Vista, CA with his wife and two sons. After the boys went off to college I spread my wings and became a school administrator. I was a principal of two elementary schools, and two middle schools in my 30 years working for San Diego Unified School District. My experience living in Encinitas was delightful, with Dave and me finding life long friends. However, we were ready to move on and find a house that we could live in as we aged. Finding Hemet, like many, was an unplanned event. When visiting old friends for lunch here in Four Seasons, we looked at homes for sale and in no time we had moved in May of 2013. To my total surprise, my sister relocated to Four Seasons from Seattle two years ago last October. What fun it has been to reconnect with her and her husband. It has been a truly wonderful new chapter to our life, meeting new friends, joining the Social Committee, meeting up with friends who like to play golf, joining a book club, socializing over dinners, and enjoying the many events here at Four Seasons. We are looking forward to many years of health and happiness here at Four Seasons. Social Committee Meet Barbra Balser, Social Committee Assistant Secretary:
