10 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | DECEMBER 2018 | It's hard to believe that we are wishing everyone at Four Seasons a joyous holiday season and Merry Christmas already! So much is offered at Four Seasons in December and we become so busy. Remember, you will need quiet time to fully enjoy this season so step into this beautiful room, exhale, and grab a book or magazine. Our door is always kept open without any "business" being conducted. This is truly your room. We hope you enjoyed Nancy Hawkins lovely talk about Carolyn Keene, the original author of the Nancy Drew books. We have delighted in sharing Four Seasons talented authors. On Jan. 17, Vernita Black will be speaking about her new book on the effects of stress in our lives. Please mark your calendar for this informative talk. Our rules are simply guidelines for us to display as many books and magazines as possible. The committee determined the year 2009 as the cut-off date for our hardbound books to be displayed on the shelves. Prolific authors like Patterson, Cussler and Nora Roberts seem to write a book a month. A cut-off date allows us room to display new authors for your enjoyment. Our magazines are displayed by the last three months. As of now please bring October, November and December dated ones to our library. We have been receiving more magazines lately and we thank you. How do you like the new arrangement of chairs in the library? We can now reach those National Geographic's easily. Last month the Hemet library asked us to find other places to donate. They are inundated with tons of books. At first we felt lost but realized it was another opportunity to share our wealth of books. Some have found their way to Angel View but we are open to any suggestions you may have. I recently donated books to the Village and they were delighted. I also have a connection for Camelot. Do you have a friend or relative in assisted living that would benefit from receiving books? Please let us know. I am sure you can still donate your older hardbound and paperback books directly to the Hemet library. Our paperback selection displays the years 2014 - 2018. Four years keeps the cabinet full for you unless we mysteriously find that someone has removes all of an author's books. Perhaps as you read one of the series you could return it for others. Four Season's library works on the honor system. When you "borrow" a book you need to return it. Seems pretty simple. Let's keep our library full. Don't forget to put your Four Seasons library on your Christmas list. Buy that new book, read it and run it to the Lodge. Think about grabbing an audio book for those hours of prepping food. Come to the Lodge just to peruse a magazine and relax and, always, take time to read… Cookie Question from Blair: why does an elephant use his trunk as a bookmark? So he always nose where he stopped reading. Book report by committee member Kay Masonbrink: For readers who are looking for a simply written, charming, light read, may I suggest My Time with Huell Howser (Prospect Park, 2017) by Luis Fuerte. You will find this book in our library on the top non- fiction shelf (biography) with a red dot on its spine. The story will be most appreciated by anyone who has loved watching Huell Howser's California's Gold series on California PBS stations for the past 25+ years. Huell was a big, handsome, personable journalist who truly loved people and became enamored of his adopted state of California. He and his cameraman, Louie, traversed up and down the state for 12 years filming, interviewing people and discovering fascinating stories. Everything from Nita the Elephant to the poppy fields to Pink's Hot Dogs. There are several great photos in the book which remind readers of the shows. I especially enjoyed the numerous anecdotes Louis recounted about how truly excited Huell became as he made these discoveries — he really was a special individual. So, to describe the book in Huell's words: "It's amaaaazing!" Library Committee
