The amendments passed by a vote of 683 to 66 – more than 90 percent in favor. Two of the 751 voters who returned ballots abstained and 245 of the 996 households eligible to vote did not return ballots. The amendments clarified language in sections of the CC&Rs that describe persons exempted from the 55-and-up rules — such as younger spouses, health care providers, disabled children and the like. They also added language to the effect that at least one resident in a household must be a 55-and-up permanent resident for any younger residents to qualify. The campaign by the HOA Board and the Rules and Regulations Committee to update the CC&Rs and get out the vote began last June when the Board approved committee recommendations for the changes. A well-attended Town Hall meeting was held in the Ballroom in July to explain the changes and urge members to vote. Committee member Louise Lyon conducted 15 "mini" town halls in residents' homes to further explain and encourage voting. A high voter turnout is necessary because the CC&R amendments require a majority of all residents – not just of Thank you very much! The Rules and Regulations Committee along with the Board of Directors backed a CCR amendment to tighten our age restrictions in our community. This was a big project and I was the project manager to try and educate as many in the community as we could. There were many involved in this process. I would like to recognize Ron Morgan, the R&R chair and the entire R&R committee. Also, Loren DuChesne, Jacque Sneddon and Wayne Staples, our Board of Directors, and Lisa Lynn, the GM of Euclid Management. Without the combined support of these individuals those voting — to approve. The Board hoped for 750 ballots in hand to allow a good chance of reaching the majority needed Voting began in September with the mailing of ballots. Slow returns caused two delays in the vote count, from November with 625 votes to December, then December with 635 votes to January. Reminder post cards were sent to non-voters; then replacement ballots were mailed to those who did not respond to the cards. The Board decided to count on Jan.10, no matter what the total votes count was. Happily, the 750 ballot threshold was beaten by one and over 68 percent of all homeowners voted in favor. Committee Chairman Ron Morgan praised the volunteers who worked tirelessly "to educate the community and get out the vote." He singled out Louise Lyon, Board President Jacque Sneddon and Vice President Loren DuChesne for their efforts with the "mini" town halls, and the many residents who opened their homes for the meetings. Morgan said the amendments are "obvious improvements" to the CC&Rs and will help Four Seasons maintain its character as an active adult community. Sneddon said she wanted to "Thank everyone for their hard work and the residents for participating. We met our goal of 750 votes — the residents responded. I hope we see that in future elections." this would have been an impossible task. Thank you very much is often said and sometimes loses its sincerity! I want the following people to know how much I personally appreciate all of the help, energy, enthusiasm and community spirit they "brought to the table" when they offered to host a mini town hall meeting in July and August of 2012. We conducted 15 mini town halls and we reached many homeowners. The 15 host/hostesses are: Barbara Miller, Bill & Tanya Guy, Wayne & Cheryl Staples, Colin & Kathy Taylor, Chuck & Colleen Barretto, Gordon & Pat Shepard, Lorene Sponsler, Steve & Marilyn Sarchett, Alan & Marsha Gormley, Patty Jordan, Paul & Ronda Esposito, Marshall & Phyllis Beede, Vicki & Bob Howard, Ron & Nancy Morgan, and Gene & Sandy Dwyer. Again, thank you so much from the bottom of my. heart. Another special thanks to Loren DuChesne and Jacque Sneddon who each went to half of the mini town halls with me. We could not have achieved our fabulous results without your help. Thank you! ~ Louise Lyon, CCR Project Manager & Former Chair, Rules & Regs Community News | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2013 5
