4x4 Seasons A new club has been formed for all four-wheel enthusiasts. We meet the second Tuesday of the month, at 7 pm in the Arts and Crafts Room. The first meeting was held on Dec. 12, and initial planning for off road trips was discussed. Our first trip will be to Ocotillo Wells on Feb. 2, a day trip with other fun and adventurous trips to follow. Any Four Seasons residents with off road vehicles are welcome to join. So pack your cooler, gas up your vehicle, dust off your CB and come join in the fun. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on Feb. 12, at 7 pm, in the Arts and Crafts Room. The presentation covered the removal of mullein. The plant has a long history of use as a herbal remedy, and is an effective treatment for asthma and respiratory disorders. Extracts made from the plant's flowers are a very effective treatment for ear infections. Although this plant is a recent arrival to North America, Native Americans used the ground seeds of this plant as a paralytic fish poison due to their high levels of rotenone. One species, (Great mullein), is used as a remedy for sore throat, cough, and lung diseases. In gardening and landscaping, the mulleins are valued for their tall narrow stature and for flowering over a long period of time, even in dry soils. The Garden Club is now in its second year and charting an agenda for 2013. For the first three months we will address subjects of interests to most gardeners: February, Preparing the Beaumont Soil and Fertilizers; March, Spring Bulbs and Containers; and April, Summer Perennials. We are also discussing having a Plant of the Month with our homeowners describing their luck or lack of with specific flowers or shrubs. Join us for our Feb. 7, meeting. ~ Len Tavernetti 36 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2013 | clubs & Groups Garden Club members learn about mullein, an invasive plant with medicinal properties.
