Delegate Assembly Report Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly epap animal rescue We do not meet in February. Our speaker on turtles in January was not able to come and hopefully will make it in March. We had to return fewer pets to their homes over the holidays. This made everyone happier not only because of the busy time but because of the inclement weather we had. We were able to find homes for two dogs that were strays and had no homes or anyone looking for them. We participated in the Activities Night in January. We are checking out a bird sanctuary, and others places that we have come to our attention. If anyone has other places that they think might be a good subject for our group, please do let us know. Because of all the donations of towels, blankets and other goods that everyone here in Sun Lakes, we have been able to take them to many more of the shelters in Riverside county. The dates for 2013 for our meetings are: March 18, May 20, July 15, Sept. 16, Nov. 18. All are on Mondays at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Info., Helen Mattias, 797-0583. Marine Corps Toys for Tots It was dark in all of our Clubhouses and doors were locked for the night. Rumor has it that a plump, elderly man dressed in red penetrated our facilities. Someone must have told him of some large boxes that were there for the collection of Toys For Tots. After filling the boxes and several large bags with toys, he left Sun Lakes with a hearty "Ho Ho!" The Marine Corps and certainly the children were grateful to the many people who contributed to the Toys For Tots to make this one of the most successful events of the year. Thank you Sun Lakes residents and I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season. - Allen Thompson, President, Sun Lakes Marines and Friends 6 | sun lakes lifestyles | february 2013 | community news It's that time of the year. The election for the members of the Master Board of Directors will take place in a couple of months. There are two positions open this year. This is one of the most important obligations each homeowner has living in our senior community. By electing fellow residents to the Master Board, we place a burden on them to take care of our lives at Sun Lakes. It is important to realize the candidates do not have to be lawyers, accountants, CPAs or have some kind of professional background. If a candidate has common sense and good judgment, he or she will be well equipped to handle the job of being a board member. A good portion of a board member's time is spent in research and studying the subject at hand. That is where common sense and good judgment comes in, making decisions based on their findings and beliefs in their conclusions. It is paramount board members appreciate the positions and opinions of other members and all of them talk things through to reach conclusions and decisions. When boards cannot negotiate with each other and find common ground, our entire complex is at risk. There is no worse situation than to have board members at odds and will not talk it out to an acceptable decision to all parties. PROPOSED RULE CHANGE NOTIFICATION The Board reviewed the following proposed amendments, to the Sun Lakes Country Club Homeowners Association General Statement of Rules and Regulations that appear in the Association's 2013 Local Phone Book, Sun Lakes Edition (reference page 41, Item 5), at its January 16, 2013 open session meeting. The Board will vote upon the proposed amendment at its March 20, 2013 Open Session Meeting, following publication in the February, 2013, Lifestyles. If the Board votes in favor of the proposed rule change it would go into effect Monday, April 1, 2013. Changes are reflected in bold, italic and underlined print. Strikethrough indicates text to be deleted. Rule changes concerning Golf Course Rules and Regulations RULE CHANGE 13-001 Golf Course Rules and Regulations 5. Unless walking or playing with an odd number of golfers, all players are required to share a golf cart with a playing partner. Golfers playing less than 9 holes may use individual carts. Rule changes concerning Recreation Facilities Rules and Regulations RULE CHANGE 13-002 13. Bulletin Boards: A limit of 3 index cards per household per month is allowed to be posted. All information must fit on a 3x5 index card, including the picture, no larger. No outside organization or business can be advertised. Each item will be date stamped and left up for a 30 day limit. If a home owner requires the item to be left up longer, they must call the front desk receptionist before the 30 day limit to renew the date stamp. If an item is sold, please notify the front desk receptionist to take the posting down. Do you want to learn more about the iPhone, iPad or anything Macintosh? Call an expert! SV Brian S. Sheafer Apple Specialist 909-795-3918 svmac.com • brian@svmac.com Throughout the years we have been very fortunate to have board members who worked together for one common end — for the benefit of our community. Sun Lakes Country Club is the size of many towns across the United States having some 6,000 residents living in 3,327 homes with assets totaling close to $40 million dollars. An annual budget of $10 million dollars demands common sense and good judgment. Much thought and study must go into the preparing of the budget and making sure each dollar is spent wisely. The Board of Directors should remember that each dollar comes from the homeowners who expect our total complex to be looked after. There are many talented residents who would make excellent board members. Please consider running for office and offering your help to the community. Candidacy forms are available on Feb. 1, at the Administration Office and are to be returned by Feb. 22. The annual election date is April 10. community news | sun lakes lifestyles | february 2013 | 7
