Friends we will miss Donald Davis Dickson, age 84, passed away at his home on December 31, 2012, after receiving wonderful, loving, compassionate care from the Visiting Nurse Association California. Don and Joann retired from Camarillo to Sun Lakes in February, 1994, and enjoyed all the amenities and wonderful friends and neighbors. Don served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Don and Joann were married over 61 years and have one daughter, Teri, and one granddaughter, Meghan. The family wishes to thank friends and neighbors for all their love, prayers and support at this time of need. Don will truly be missed by all who knew him. Professor Francis E. Jones Jr. USC, Emeritus, May 17, 1920- December 22, 2012. Francis, a USC Law Professor and proud Trojan for over 30 years loved his students and enjoyed teaching Torts, Constitutional Law and Policy. Frank was born in Hartford, Connecticut, May 17, 1920 and passed away peacefully at the age of 92, at home with his wife Erika by his side on December 22, 2012. An avid singer and entertainer, Frank was the founder of the premier a capella group, The Georgetown Chimes, who are proudly carrying on his musical legacy. As a young man at Georgetown Law School he studied under the great Edward Bennett Williams whom he later beat in court, helping to deport the mob boss, Frank Costello. During WWII, at age 24, he was made Captain in the US Army, serving five years; three in the Pacific Theatre. He graduated with a BA from Yale in 1942, earned his Jurist Doctor in 1948 and Masters of Law in 1952, both from Georgetown Law School. Frank was an influential force on the debate team and was President of the Young Democrats in Washington, DC. A strong swimmer, he was proud to be able to hold his breath underwater for three minutes. He enjoyed eating hot dogs and ice cream and for years met his good friends daily at McDonald's for breakfast. A great tenor, Frank enjoyed singing with his friends and family. He simply loved to laugh! His favorite dirty joke was, "A white horse fell in the mud!" Frank is survived by his wife, Erika, stepchildren, Carola Roufs and Ralph Burton, his grandchildren, Anthony Garcia, Laurel Benjamin, Rebecca and Melissa Burton, and three sons, Francis, Andrew and Maurice Jones, and his beloved Georgetown Chimes. He will be missed. Vernon Robert Leuthold passed away on December 30, 2012 at his home in Sun Lakes. He leaves behind his loving daughter, Pamela (Chris), along with a brother and three sisters. His beloved Toddy passed away in June 2007. They moved to Sun Lakes from Upland, CA, in 1989 to play lots of golf and make all kinds of wonderful new friends. He had been stationed in England during the war and flew 13 B-17 missions over Germany , after being a flight instructor at Ellington Field , TX. After the war he reenlisted until he retired in 1966. His next career was with Lockheed in Ontario as a technical writer, retiring in 1985. Always engaged, always fun… he loved life. Jon Clark Spoelstra was born November 7, 1933, in Corsica, SD. With his family by his side, he joined other family members in heaven on December 6, 2012. He endured multiple cancers for 15 years with the greatest attitude and appreciation of life. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, an engineer, accountant and an avid lover of golf. Clark and Carol have four sons, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother and tree sisters. Clark will truly be missed by his loving family. John Alexander Strycula passed away on November 23, 2012 at the age of 86. His wife and family members were by his side. His life was very blessed and he lived it to the fullest. He grew up in Brownsville, PA, and was a four year starter on the baseball team. After high school he joined the Navy and also had brief stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates until he suffered an arm injury. He graduated from Virgina University in 1953 and in 1954 entered the teaching and coaching profession in Ohio. John moved his family to California in 1958 and was the first football coach at Charter Oak High School where his team won three championships in four years. He then moved on to Glendora High School, winning three championships in five years. John was hired at Citrus College in 1967 and eventually retired in 1986. After 19 years of hard work and dedication, John was inducted into the community college football "Hall of Fame." He spent his retirement years enjoying his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored. John is survived by Mary Ann, his wife of 64 years; sister Mable Stevens, brother Joseph Strycula, three sons, John (Marty), Bill (Rhonda), and Jeff (Teresa), ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
