| OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2018 |29 Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, and season's greetings! It is with great anticipation and excitement that we can say, "December is here." This is the best time of year, as we enjoy a renewed energy within the Clubhouse. The holiday lights are up, the trees decorated, the toys continue to arrive, and everyone is ready to celebrate. The Woodchucks Club members have played Santa Claus, with the help of so many resident volunteers that have painted, sewn and sawed their days away. The Garden Club has assisted in the decorations throughout, with Bob Wong choosing a "North Pole" theme for the lobby tree this year. Our thanks to each of you, who have combined your efforts, in making the Clubhouse come to life for all of us this holiday season. CHORAL SOCIETY HOLIDAY CONCERT The Choral Society is presenting their Holiday Concert on Sun., Dec. 9, at 2 pm. They always include a fantastic raffle and there is audience participation, with the singing of songs that are familiar. If you need to get in the spirit of the season, this is where to get in the mood. The performers started rehearsing in early September. We heard their selections over and over, and they just got better and better. The Recreation Department will provide the refreshments, so come on in, and rub shoulders with your neighbors. ANNUAL GOLF CART PARADE The Annual Golf Cart Parade takes off on Tues., Dec. 18, departing from the Clubhouse at 5 pm. The event has continued to grow over the last few years. Residents Anne Cain and Kathy Barbier have organized the parade each year. Besides, keeping the flow of the parade going, which included 80 golf carts and vehicles, judging proved to be too difficult for this duo. This year they have recruited resident judges to oversee the contest with prizes for the winners. Some of you may have missed the motorized flying-winged golf cart; it had to be an engineer that created that one. They are hoping to have 100 registered entrants, please contact Anne Cain, if interested. A map of the times and streets affected will be distributed, please check at the Front Desk if you have not received one. CLUBHOUSE CLOSED The Clubhouse is closing at 5 pm on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve. NEW YEAR'S EVE CELEBRATION Our New Year's Eve Celebration sponsored by the Recreation Department starts at 8 pm and tickets are on sale for $65 per person. You can purchase tables of 10. Dress is cocktail to formal. We are fortunate to have contracted with The Mar Dels, a local band that got their start in 1982. This event certainly has its benefits: no need for Uber, safe surroundings, no coat check-in, no need to pay for parking, and free (?) coffee at the bar in the morning. DO DUES DAY Residents should attend Do Dues Day, Sat., Jan. 5 from 10 am to 2 pm. Clubs and classes will have representatives here to give out information and collect dues for 2019. Bring a checkbook and a list of the club membership dues is available. The Front Desk will take checks before and after this date, if you are not able to attend. GOLF BAG TAGS Pick up your annual 2019 Golf Bag Tags now, and there is no charge for the tag. Each year a bag tag is required on each resident's golf bags to be displayed. The color this year is a brilliant blue. That is it for this year. So long "2018," where did you go? Thank you to all the residents who volunteered their time in helping to create a healthy, vibrant, and active leisure lifestyle. On behalf of the entire staff, thank you for the expressions of kindness to each of us this year. Somehow, we never seem to go hungry. The food, the gifts, the cards, and the sentiments have been appreciated. We wish you all a beautiful and memorable holiday. Hug and show your appreciation to those around you. We are looking forward to a fabulous 2019, see you somewhere in the Clubhouse. Happy new year to all! Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director
