36 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2019 Mixed Media Arts Class This is the perspective of the artist of the month, Linda Rau: "When I was in kindergarten, I colored a picture all in turquoise. My teacher reamed me out for only using one color, a response that today may have gotten her fired and turned any artistic ambitions on my part to naught. For me, coloring turned into drawing. I even drew floor plans for houses I wanted to build. I took a few art classes in high school and college and continued to use pencil to draw portraits of my brother, friends and a few rock stars. For years my drawing only consisted of doodling during meetings at work, due to a short attention span. I retired three years ago and recently moved to our beautiful Four Seasons community. There are so many options, card games, exercise classes, sports, etc. I knew from the Breeze that there was an art class. I finally decided to call Rob and attended my first class the next week. Our first assignment was to draw an elephant. I didn't want to draw an elephant. I grumbled under my breath. But I drew an elephant and then the other assignments and then moved on to color. I want to improve my watercolor and acrylic use. I even tried pastels. Rob has been a great help developing many techniques and challenging me. The class is not only instructional, but a lot of fun. My fellow classmates are extremely talented and generously offer suggestions from their own experiences. "Many of them had never drawn or painted before coming to this class. If you're looking for a challenge and some fun, come join us. Classes are FREE!" Classes are Mondays 10 am to 12 noon and/or Wednesdays 6 to 8 pm. Any questions, call Rob Kelman at (951) 992-9156. ~ Rob Kelman Work by Artist of the Month Linda Rau Veterans of Four Seasons… please sign up for inclusion on our Honor Roll.
