| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2019 | 11 Here we are in the New Year and planning some new interesting guests for our meetings. We brought up some important issues the past year. I'm hoping we can apply them this year. Our next meeting is Mon., Jan. 21 at 10 am in the Multipurpose Room. Our guest speaker will be Bonnie O' Connor, owner, small animal massage practitioner. Bonnie provides relaxation and maintenance massages for our canine and feline friends. You won't want to miss this meeting! Sounds interesting! If you have any old towels, blankets, or pet items you no longer need please contact Helen Mattias at 797-0583. See you all at the January meeting! Info., Sandy Burgon (909) 855- 0226. The Sun Lakes Country Club Homeowners Association Annual Meeting of the Membership will be held on April 10, 2019. There will be two open positions on the Board of Directors. Each newly elected director will serve a two-year term. Any homeowner interested in running for the Board of Directors should fill out a Candidacy Form. Candidacy forms will be available in the administration office beginning Mon., Feb. 4 and must be returned no later than 5 pm on Fri., Feb. 22. The Inspector of Election will review each candidacy form it receives and place all eligible candidates on the ballot. Two "Meet the Candidates" forums will be conducted in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Members will be given the opportunity to ask questions to the candidates running for the Board. The first forum will be held on Mon., March 11 at 6 pm and the second will be Tues., March 12 at 10 am. The Member of Record Date is Mon., Feb. 18 and ballots will be mailed to each homeowner on Mon., March 11. IMPORTANT REMINDER TO RESIDENTS The Association's private patrol operator at Sun Lakes may call residents who leave their garage doors open in violation of Sun Lakes' rules. Such calls are a courtesy in an effort to avoid the Association having to issue citations for the rule violation. This courtesy in no way relieves residents of their duties to ensure their own compliance with the rules or to secure their own doors and residences. Residents must be proactive; they cannot rely on the Association's patrol operator, who may or may not spot open garage doors during its common area patrols. 2019 Annual Meeting of the Membership & Election of Directors Medical Rescue Teams are vital parts of our Emergency Preparedness Plan. In a catastrophic event, devastating injuries may occur, and professional medical assistance may not be readily available. We must be ready and able to help ourselves and our neighbors. The Sun Lakes EPAP plan calls for each district to establish a Medical Rescue Team. More than one team may even be needed by a District, depending upon its population. In an ideal situation, each team needs four people: a rescuer to check for residents who may be trapped in their homes, a medical professional (nurse or doctor), a trained first-aid person to assist the injured, and a facilitator for supplies, logistics and radio communication. The MRT responds to the home of an injured resident, as determined by the Zone Captains and EPAP Coordinator. The team assesses the severity of the injuries, and provides first aid to stop severe bleeding, stabilize fractures, etc., and recommends necessary actions as appropriate. Each team is issued A Handi-Talki Radio, flashlight, clipboard, medical kit, rescue kit, fire extinguisher, and identification vests. This equipment is maintained in a centralized District location, along with reporting documents. Many Districts in Sun Lakes do not have enough volunteers to staff an MRT, so even one first-aid person would be helpful. To increase the number of volunteers available, EPAP is helping to facilitate Red Cross First Aid Training classes to Sun Lakes residents. This is an excellent opportunity for residents to learn more about first aid, and to serve our community at the same time. A certified instructor will conduct classes in Sun Lakes during the next four months. For more information, see the EPAP section of the Sun Lakes website, or call Linda Myers- Kalb at 529-9087, or EPAP at 524-3126. EPAP: MEDICAL RESCUE TEAMS
