| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2019 | 23 Bingo Advisory Committee Lifestyles Advisory Committee The Bingo Advisory Committee wishes each of you a happy and healthy 2019. This month bingo will be Jan. 22 and 29. Our doors open at 4:30 pm and the first game begins at 6 pm. You can bring food from home or purchase food to go from our restaurant. On Jan. 22 we will have four games that will each be paying $500. There are two other games that will each be paying $300. The remaining games will all be paying $200. Our committee is so pleased to see so many new Sun Lakers coming to Bingo. Welcome. Have questions? Call me at 845-8700 (Anne). 2019 has arrived – a New Year, New Beginnings, a New Day. Let's welcome all the wonderful volunteers who have joined one of the 13 committees in Sun Lakes. A big welcome to the new board members on the Lifestyles Advisory Committee: Connie Cutner, Carolyn Wright, Judy Garthwaite, Marsha Gold, Linda Stone, Don Savacool and Raelene Kretchman. The Lifestyles Advisory Committee send out a big thank you to the many Sun Lakes volunteers, our Super Heroes! Volunteers are heroic: brave, strong, willing to jump in and help. So yes, we think that volunteers do share a lot of characteristics with super heroes. But you know what? Our opinion is that it is actually the reverse. Super heroes share a lot of characteristics with volunteers! Just like the volunteers who work in Sun Lakes, super heroes have various motivations behind their efforts. Bruce Wayne wants to rid Gotham City of evil like the men who killed his parents when he was a child. Wonder Woman's quest for justice is fueled by desire to protect her Amazon homeland, which has often been linked to feminist ideologies. Iron Man is out to rectify the wrongs that he and his father committed in the name of doing business. Our super heroes want to give back to their community and help to make it better. If you haven't joined a committee, be sure and come to Sun Lakes Appreciation Day on Jan. 19, from 9 am to 12 pm, and take a look at the 13 advisory committees to discover what they do and what they stand for, I bet one will pique your interest. Wouldn't you like to thank or recognize a staff member, neighbor, or board member, or just someone who went above and beyond for you? If so fill out a "Grateful For" card located at the reception desk in the Main Clubhouse lobby or email your comments to Subject: Gratitude, at Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com. Happiness is contagious, let's continue to be a carrier. Welcome, book-lovers, to 2019! Our four libraries are ready for you, including new books added to "NYT Best Sellers" in the large print section of the Paperback Library. There are bookmarks that we place in each library for residents' needs but they also are useful because they describe what books we can accept for donations. Older and specialty books like cookbooks, travel books, or coffee table books I would recommend donating to Banning or Beaumont libraries. Please no hardcover books older than 2009 for the Hardcover library. The Library Committee has new members for the 2019 - 2020 term: Joy Bailey, Barbara Elness, Peter Fernandez, and John Hasha. Thank you for volunteering! I would like to thank those who have served on the committee for the last two-year term. Thank you to Janelle Karabatsos who was our steadfast Treasurer and kept our books to the penny. Sheila Cannon helped us with many projects, including the Library-user survey, for which we thank her. Janet Contreras was kept very busy as our Volunteer Coordinator, she gets the calls when people go on vacation. Thanks for that, Janet! Barbara Lindlan is not only an avid reader, but as Secretary has done a wonderful job with meeting minutes. Hard workers and fun to work with! The Committee thanks each of these members for their service. Through purchases and donations the audiobook section has grown. The sliding glass case was filled to overflowing so now we have two shelves directly across from this case too. The cabinet is not locked so you can peruse both sides of that aisle in the Paperback Library for your audiobook choices; this is honor system as well. Return after finishing to the wooden return bin. Also don't forget the Health & Wellness section in the South Clubhouse. You'll be surprised how many titles we have, and the variety of topics. We have openings for some Library volunteers – stamping donated books/audiobooks, reshelving books in Hardcover, Paperback, NCH and SCH libraries. We will train you and it really isn't very much time. If you would like to help, please call (360) 840-5559 or email sunlakesdoug@gmail.com, Doug Deans. As I travel to different parts of the US and especially in talking to seniors, so many are amazed to hear about Sun Lakes' libraries and all that we have to offer. We have some wonderful ideas for additional programs that the Library Advisory Committee will be working to start in 2020. Grab a book and stay tuned! Library Advisory Committee
