Santa and Mrs. Claus visited to give away prizes and collect club-member donated toys. Visiting, eating and helping others. A win-win! So What About Martha Stewart? A December 2018 Martha Stewart Living Magazine article by Kelly Dinardo titled "The Pursuit of Happiness," made me think about RVing. The article gives six common barriers and solutions to achieve happiness, and I think RVing takes care of all of them. I'll paraphrase the solutions here: 1. Look for positives. That's easy when RVing. There's plenty of beautiful scenery and adventure. Positives roll along and practically hit you in the face as you make your way down the road. 2. Connect with people. People who RV are some of the friendliest and most "connectible" people out there. I have a theory that people feel freer to talk to new people if they know they won't be stuck with those people (next door or the next cubicle over) for the next 10 years. 3. Live for the moment. It's easy to forget about yesterday and not worry about tomorrow when having adventure on America's highways. 4. Unplug from the craziness. Traveling tends to distract from checking social media, watching talk shows, and obsessing about the news. There are just too many other things to do and see. 5. Figure out what your priorities and interests are. There's plenty of time to ponder what your life's about and what makes you happy when you're not at home doing the millions of things that seem so important when you're doing them, but that are actually keeping you from doing what you really want (and deserve) to do and experience. 6. Find balance. RVing puts fun back in life, and the discovery of new people and places keeps it fresh and interesting. If you're an RV Club member, you're probably nodding right now and thinking how RVing makes you happy. If you're not already a member, what are you waiting for? Now that the holidays are over, it's time to start the New Year focusing on our 2019 season of events. Just a reminder that if you haven't paid your annual club dues, now is the time to do it - $10 pp or $15 per couple payable by checks ONLY. Bring your membership checks to our Jan. 8 meeting or drop your check off to Sue Dunn's house at 4957 Rio Bravo and place it in her mailbox on the porch. This month we start our preparations and rehearsals for "That's Entertainment" to be held from Feb. 28 to March 3. All participants in "That's Entertainment" must be members of our club so if you want to perform and you haven't paid your dues, now is the time to do it. We also need members who are willing to take on some of the production work. The future of "That's Entertainment" will hinge on members' willingness to do something besides perform. Ticket sales will be held from Feb. 11 through Feb. 27 and we will need volunteers to sell tickets. More information will be available at our January meeting. Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, but due to the New Year's holiday, we moved our meeting this month to Jan. 8, at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom.
