60 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2019 | Friends we will miss Gordon "Scott" Grehn, 72, passed away at Calimesa Post Acute Care on November 17th after a long illness. Scott, affectionately known to his friends and family growing up as "Butch," was born in Los Angeles, California in 1946 to Gordon and Betty Grehn. He was raised in the beach side community of Playa Del Rey, CA, a suburb of Los Angeles, where he was an avid little league baseball player and surfer. He and his parents spent many summers at their lakeside cabin in Northern Wisconsin where he loved to fish. After graduating from Westchester High School, Scott married his high school sweetheart Ann, and they had a son, Richard. Scott landed his first job washing TWA Boeing 707 jets at Los Angeles International Airport. He continued on to baggage loading at TWA and eventually moved to their cargo division as lead man. After relocating to Riverside, CA from Torrance, CA, Scott decided to pursue other interests and retired from TWA in 1992 after 28 years of service. He and his second wife, Kathryn, moved to Sun Lakes in 2005 where she passed away shortly thereafter. Scott met his third wife, Margaret and they both enjoyed road trips across the U.S., cruises to Hawaii and Europe and dancing and dining at the Clubhouse. He also enjoyed billiards and building model airplanes and the many other social events at Sun Lakes. Scott leaves behind his wife Margaret; a daughter, Victoria Kumar and grandson, Aaron, Perris, CA and a brother, James Grehn, Palm Springs, CA. Mary Lou Hambelton, 80 of Banning, California entered into eternal life on October 31, 2018 in Long Beach California surrounded by her three children, Jimme, Kimberly and Timothy, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, her sister and two brothers. Born on June 20, 1938 in Gardena, CA. She is predeceased by her parents and her late husband of 53 years, James L. Hambelton. Mary Lou and her husband raised their children in Brea. After her husband retired they moved to Beaumont where they raised their grandson Ryan. Shortly after her husbands passing she discovered Sun Lakes Country Club. Mary Lou was a person who was rarely sick. That's why it was such a shock when her doctor told her she had lung cancer stage four bone mestastases and passed away two months later. A loving mother and homemaker. She was a remarkable cook, and enjoyed preparing meals and treats for her family and friends, most especially over the holidays. She was involved in Sun Lakes Country Club community and her surrounding friends. She recently celebrated her 80th birthday in the Ballroom. It was spectacular! She enjoyed the Clubhouse and all the festivities from Bocce Ball, bingo, karaoke, dancing, listening to music, live entertainment, cards, and dining in the restaurant. She was captain of the bocce team. She enjoyed watching her family and friends have a good time by staying connected with social media. Some of her favorite times were spent at "the river." Chili cook off was the highlight of the year, along with the antique car show. It was a time she shared with her family of various generations. A celebration of Mary Lou's life was held at Parkcrest Christian Church in Long Beach. The family wishes to thank those who have extended emotional support for Mary Lou during her final days.
