| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2019 | 15 If you have questions about golf in Sun Lakes, please call the Main Pro Shop at 845-2135 or the Executive Pro Shop at 769-8444. SLCC Golf & Pro Shop News So far since Jan. 1 it has been windy and cold. We have lost a few trees and many large limbs. The new cart path on #16 Championship course is a huge improvement and we hope to address the other side of the hole this summer. We have had extensive cleanup of debris due to excessive winds, mud and trash over on Hole #16 for the past month or so. Recently water had drifted all the way across #15 fairway due to the water flow. Bunkers on both courses have been compromised and sand displaced throughout both courses. We have been forced to pump out lakes to get the water level down below the concrete edge. This is vital to the integrity of our lake structures, but does not help us with water moving through the course causing more softness. Please avoid driving your carts in low lying areas. The lake renovation project on #9 Championship Course is moving along very nicely. We will be tying in the lake edge with sod, raising up the front of the green for better drainage to the new stone wall and will be adding some fairway drainage all of which are the final pieces. We will add a fish habitat and start to fill the lake. Then final grade work on the opposite side of the lake and landscape in mid/late spring. This will be a great addition to your club and the golf course. See some updated photos for the new lake improvements. On the executive course we are landscaping with turf reduction plantings along Sun Lakes Boulevard. These will be similar plants that were used on hole #12 and after one growing season have already looked much different from when we planted them about a year ago. With any new plant it takes time and a few growing seasons to really see the effect of size and color. Tree trimming continues everywhere as the budget allows. Trimming is done in sequence on a priority basis. Meaning if there is a tree that gets on the trimming list it could be four months before it is trimmed. Safety issues have priority. The fountain on holes #8/9 exec course has been causing us fits. We recently had an electrician out trying to identify the problem. He could not find anything so the manufacturer is looking at the motor of the fountain, which takes time unfortunately. Please be patient with us as we work through finding out what is the problem. The new golf rates have been lowered for 2019, so come out and utilize what in my opinion is the best golf experience you can find anywhere. Finally, as we start the new year I wanted to remind everyone that all the practice facilities, greens, and the golf courses have a dress code. Feel free to stop in the golf shop and pick up a copy of the golf rules as well as the new golf rates for 2019. Have a great new year! As always, please feel free to contact the golf shop with any questions, comments or feedback.
