| OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2019 |29 February is the LOVE month and it is a welcomed time for creativity in event planning and theme-based programs. Whether it be hearts, candy, or roses, the month provides a time where we can focus our attention on those we care about. That is always a good thing in today's on-the-move society. Valentine's Day is Thurs., Feb. 14, and Cupid may be lurking about in the Clubhouse, so be aware! The Recreation Department has already launched the ticket sales for our Impersonator Show next month. This show always is a sell- out. One year we had a Shania Twain impersonator. All the men in the crowd were on their feet, as she made her way into the audience. Need we say more? When the department schedules a performance or event, it becomes a community affair with the audience engaging in the activity. The AV volunteers are always there for us and we thank each of them for their dedication to helping to present a top- notch production. On New Year's Eve, the atmosphere was what one would call "electric" and the 268 residents combined their efforts in line dancing, a circle dance, and they exhibited a camaraderie that only an attendee would understand. So, do not miss the Duets performance, it is always fun-filled evening. Do Dues Day was so well attended the parking lot became full in the first hour. The RV Club did a fabulous job of preparing the hot dog lunch, serving from inside and at the bar. We thank each of the volunteers for their time and enthusiasm to host this enjoyable undertaking. Food makes memories and that "electric" feeling was in the air. This month, we will launch a 'food pop-up' trial in the resident parking lot. A food pop-up is a freestanding service, with equipment and canopy. The crepes will be prepared on griddles. The food pop-up will be here on Mon., Feb. 4, from 2 to 6 pm. We are pleased to announce that "Stacy's Crepes" will set up and serve food for residents to take home. This has long been a request, by so many, to have something here to eat that residents could pick up. The prices are reasonable $3 - $12, the food is delish, and cash/credit cards are accepted. We plan to have a bakery here, too! Both vendors plan to continue coming if there is enough business to make it worth their while. Therefore, we call upon the community to support this endeavor, no meal to cook; just a short distance away and we will see you on the asphalt. In the event of rain, we reserve the right to cancel the service. The event will take place in the back row of the Resident Only parking lot, closest to Leisure Village Way. Do a drive by and check it out. Tri-City Medical Center is bringing three cardiologists here Fri., Feb. 22. Tickets are available at the Clubhouse Front Desk for the free lunch that begins at 11:30 am. Chairs will be set up for those that are unable to attend the lunch. Tri-City Medical Center has been a terrific partner, over the years, and they provide valuable information regarding current health practices. We will be saying "good-bye" to one of our team members this month. Adrian Eng, our cheerful day receptionist will bid farewell to us on Feb. 15. Adrian has been here for close to eight years and she has, graciously, accommodated the many requests that have come her way, with her can-do attitude. Adrian plans to retire and live out life in her garden, traveling, playing the game of Mahjong (a newly acquired skill), and trying to figure out what to do with all her free time. We know she will miss the many friendships she has made through the years. Thank you, Adrian, for all you have done to make the membership feel welcome in the Clubhouse. As we begin OHCC's 35th year, we are looking forward to the celebration on Sun., May 5, 2019. A health fair is in the works, along with food trucks and the distribution of the Anniversary Book. If there are any vendors interested in participating, please have them call the Recreation Director. The 35th Anniversary Committee have been planning for this special day since November 2017. For this reason, we have a lot to look forward to, not to mention all the other special activities on the books. Have a Happy Valentine's Day. Send a valentine to someone who would appreciate the thought - for LOVE makes our world go round! Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director
