28 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2019 | Donny Ray Evins, international award winning singer, is coming to the Friendship Club on March 10. The two-time Las Vegas Variety Entertainer of the Year presents Unforgettable, the music of Nat King Cole. Donny had always dreamed of being a singer. He went to Las Vegas and was hired by The Platters. For two years he toured as the group's MC and bass singer. After leaving The Platters, Donny studied the voice and music of Nat King Cole. His smooth bass baritone voice, warm stage presence, and uncanny resemblance to Mr. Cole landed him a contract with Legends in Concert in Las Vegas. He starred on the Legends Broadway tour, won the Newcomers Award and the Las Vegas Variety Entertainer of the Year for two consecutive years, and has been a featured performer on international cruise lines worldwide. Tickets for the show are $20 for members, $25 for non-resident guests. Doors open at 6 pm, show begins at 7 pm. Make checks out to Friendship Club, and deliver them to 5168 Rio Bravo Drive. Call the hostess (951) 769-6654 for more information. The Friendship Club Happy Cookers A new tradition has started at the Happy Cookers meetings. Jean Dobson, President, begins the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, and for that particular month, congratulations are extended to members on their birthdays, also sharing of their wedding anniversary dates. This ice-breaker is a welcomed addition by our members. Wendy Ditchfield, Vice President, introduced her new Events Committee, which includes Connie Cutner, Gale Crandell, Davena Jones, De Oravecz, Evon Montague, Luz Sandeen, and Pat Sedlacek. They presented some fascinating programs which this month, March 22, will be "Eggstravaganza." This gives our members an opportunity to decorate Easter eggs and sample a variety of egg dishes. Some future events include April's "Kentucky Derby," which will include races, festive hats and traditional Derby dishes. May's event brings us a "Getting To Know You Mixer" with an opportunity to meet some newer members of the club. We are sending a thank you to Stefanie Ellison for presenting information on The Keto Diet. She has had a dramatic amount of weight loss by curbing her carbohydrates. Members really enjoyed the Q&A and the opportunity to sample some delicious treats that Stefanie so generously provided. Happy Cookers is a great club where one may learn about cooking, tasting treats, meeting new friends, and sharing recipes.
