Due to some of the excursion refund policies and to keep cancellations down to a minimum, we ask those who wish to sign up for an excursion to please check your calendar for prior engagements prior to signing up for excursions. REFUND POLICY: 1. Cancellations made 30 days prior to the departure date of an excursion or special event will qualify for a full refund, unless otherwise specified. 2. Cancellations made after the 30 day refund deadline are not refundable. However, if an excursion or event has sold out and there is a wait list, the Recreation Department may issue a refund if the ticket can be resold from the wait list. For theater excursions, please let staff know at the time of sign up if you would like to sit next to a specific person. For casino trips, residents must provide addresses for their guests. Passengers need to be in good physical health, able to board and re-board a motorcoach bus (several times if needed), walk up and down a flight of stairs and be able to walk reasonable distances. Passengers should know their own limitations before signing up for some trips* ON A TRIAL BASIS, YOUR NUMBER FOR LOADING ON THE BUS WILL BE DETERMINED BY WHEN YOU BOUGHT YOUR TICKET. FIRST ONE TO BUY A TICKET WILL BE NUMBER 1 TO LOAD THE BUS. EXCURSIONS EXCURSION SIGN UPS: MARCH 1, AT 8 AM If you are looking for enjoyment, friendships, new places to see, or just to get out for the day, try coming along for one of the many day trips that the Recreation Department has to offer. We travel to Museums, Casinos, Live Theater, Symphonies, Gardens, Concerts and we also offer a few multiple day trips throughout the year. Some trips will offer lunches or dinners that are included in the price. Flyers can be found in the Main Clubhouse Lobby or call the Recreation Department for more information on the fabulous day trips and special events. Wed., May 15, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm, $50pp. Yakult Factory Tours: Yakult's first U.S. factory is located in Fountain Valley, California, where they make both Yakult and Yakult Light. The facility can produce 400,000 bottles a day, every one of them packed with billions of Yakult's exclusive probiotic. You'll tour their state-of-the-art facility, see how Yakult is made and learn more about probiotics. You'll also get to see how their factory makes, fills, seals and packages their iconic little bottles. After your tour of the Yakult Factory, we will stop at South Coast Plaza for lunch (on own) before heading to the Laguna Canyon Winery. Laguna Canyon Winery: In 2003 construction was completed and premium grapes were shipped directly to Laguna Beach from the Napa and Sonoma regions. While tasting the wines, you will be standing in the middle of the winery where crushing, pressing, fermentation, barrel aging, blending and bottling all take place. Their wine-making equipment, including the bottling line, stainless steel tanks, oak barrels and wine press, were flown in from Italy in 2003 and is still used today to process the crafted wine. You will enjoy five flights of their premium wines, plus crackers. Their motto is 'Blending is Better' as the winery is known for their unique and interesting blends showing layers of complexity with each sip. Since they opened, they have won numerous awards every year from the largest and most comprehensive California wine competition in the world at the Orange County Fair. Sun., May 5, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, $30pp. The Carlsbad Village Faire is the largest one-day street fair in the nation. The Faire stretches 14 blocks. Grand Avenue from Carlsbad Boulevard to Jefferson Street, and all the cross streets in between would be closed for the event. Each year, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce hosts the Faire in May and November. Now this event has grown to be so popular that it not only continually attracts people from all over Southern California, but also from other states. The Carlsbad Village Faire is a celebration of Southern California culture and our community. The Faire draws over 100,000 visitors with its 800 unique vendor booths offering handcrafted arts and gifts, antiques, jewelry, unique clothing, home décor, plants and more. The international food court will once again feature more than 50 booths serving everything from Thai to Hawaiian cuisine. The Kiwanis Club of Carlsbad will continue its more than 25-year tradition of hosting a pancake breakfast at the Carlsbad railroad depot. The meal, which includes pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice, will be served between 7 am and 12 pm (on own). Lunch will be on own on site. Yakult's and Laguna Canyon Winery Carlsbad Village Faire
